Hey All,
I am thinking about getting into expediting with a co-driver so we can run a team operation. We are looking at cargo van/Sprinter or the straight truck but haven't completely decided yet. Which is best? What companies are best to look at? We both have considerable TT experience but want to migrate out of that because of the increasing restrictions and parking hassles. Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,
George

I'd start in the newbies forum in the section called Newbies FAQ.

I still think there should be a sticky message there or here addressing this very common line of questioning, but maybe someday.

Someone else will probably come along and be of more help. I'm at the shipper right now about to roll out.

George: I think you misunderstood - it's not the wrong forum, it's the wrong questions. Asking which vehicle or carrier is 'the best' is like asking whether Ford or Chevy is better, ok? The one that's better is the one that you prefer.
Rather than repost the questions, you should do a lot of reading in the Newbies forum to help you figure out which vehicle you'd prefer [though I can tell you that a cargo van is hard to share with a codriver, lol] and also get some feedback on which carriers may be worth giving a call.
Finally: the free EO seminars are tailor made for folks like you - if you can attend one, it'll help a lot.
Welcome to EO! :)

George, with all due respect,if your having a hard time with TT,you should not get deeper in the mire by going expediter. At least not now with no experience. If you must be involved with trucking,a dedicated TT weekly run that pays the bills is better then putting your a## on the line with a company that guarrentes zero.Thats what you will end up with.Zero and a big truck payment. These companies care not one ioda about your troubles and lack of profit.
Take guitar lessons and save your money, your chances are better of making it as a rock star then making any real money in this business. I tried for 7 years and broke even for my efforts. That was during good economic times.

I don't know of many team operations that are doing very well anywhere . Husband and wife teams can survive but if you're talking about 2 single individuals the revenue just isn't there . But if you have a problem now not finding a place to park you won't have that problem with a straight truck or cargo van . You'll get plenty of experience being parked .

George, I would suggest you take your time and read a LOT of posts in here. It may not be the best time for some to get in but it is NOT all gloom and doom. While this has not be the best year so far last month was one of the best we have ever had in this business. A lot has to do with how you go about it, you qualifications and your work ethic. Economys have gone up and down my entire life. This is NOTHING new. It will recover. I can't say when but it always does. Just take you time and study. That is MY 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.
