I'm not sure if I want to do this or not. I really would like a great deal of info. I would like to run solo and in a van or small box unit. I would like feedback on fuel economy for both and serviceability. Who would be best to work for? I live in the southeast, between Atlanta (GO BRAVES) and Chattanooga. I do not want anything to canada or nyc. I have class b no haz.
What do all the accessories cost that are needed?
How pushed is the freight?
Where are most of the runs to?
What are the deadhead miles?
What is the average take-home?
What is the best unit for the best freight ratio?
What are the hours like?
Who likes this and who does not?
What kind of capital is needed?
Where is the best place to buy a unit?
What about leasing from some individual?
Anyone want to hire a driver?:*

Have you checked in the Free Classified section on EO....

There are many ads for drivers of vans and straight trucks.

You should be able to find what you are looking for there

Before diving in head first I would recommend to you, drive for a contractor for 6 months to a year and see how you like it. This will give you a great education and not cost you a dime other than your time. Try contacting the bigger companys and talk to there recruiters. Money wise with your license a "D" unit would be the money maker. If your background is trucking you might try to drive for a "white glove" team as a co-driver, maybe in a reefer unit. There are many opportunities out there, start knocking on doors and get a feel for what you will be in store for. This is not an 8 to 5 job. Never has been, and never will be. We as expeditors pick up the mess when others screw up! Most of your driving will be late afternoon into the night. This may not be for you. You should also plan on staying out anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks at a time. Best of luck and keep us posted how you are doing. This is not the job for everyone. The drivers out there doing this truly love what they are doing!
