He is one for you:
Was talking to Pa other day and he informed me that The County was suppose to get a new Road Grader. He told me That the steering system was not going to have a steering wheel in it but a Joy stick.
Much as that of a Video Game. All the controlls will be push buttons and Electronic. From the steering system to the brakes ect.
HE stated that they said it was cheaper to run wires then Hydrolic hoses.
Interesting isnt it. Now whats around the cornor for Trucks well guess what. The Volvos already got push button automatics well Joy sticks for steering are going to be comming into play realy soon as well. FOOD for thought.
When he asked the reason for this, it was put simply Kids play with joy stick more than steering wheels so they are going to follow that trend. Now for the real reason its cheaper as stated above to run wires than Hydrolics. lot less weight as well.
oh yes they are not just going to use this on roadgraders but on cats and scrapers and loaders as well food for thought and comming very soon to tractors.

nothing new with that I got the opportunity to drive a prototype Ag tractor back in the early "80s" all pushbutton, steering, brakes, shifting, the cool thing about it was you could set it up to plow a field and once everything was set it would take care of everything without any operator input it would even sense wheel slippage and compensate for it

Was that at the New Holland plant in Troy mich by any chance?

I worked over Jerod Brown at the time and worked on the hydraulics for some new fangled tractor with joystick steering and push button everything else at the Ford tractor plant.
