Given the dumb things I've heard from salesmen over the years...they usually are the last people I trust for vehicle info.

I read that is why MB expanded the Ladson plant and actually making the Sprinter in the USA now...so they can offer more models the 4x4 will be available and the electric model in the near future as well..and respond to optional equip. needs faster...now they have competition from Dodge and Ford...

The MB salesman will slip you something alright. Load you up with MB-STD's right through the Def system.. .. he he he

Yep no doubt MB will find a way to get def on a gasser.

I have never heard of diesel exhaust particles in a gasser exhaust system.
That said, I'm sure they will find a way to complicate it and make it costly to service.
Higher costs for Everyone!
Merry Christmas!

DEF's purpose is to reduce NOx on a diesel. On a gasser reducing NOx is easily done with the EGR so...

Now DPF, the truth is that all gasoline engines with direct injection are terrible about the particulates they put out. Just look at the exhaust pipe of any of them and you will see the black soot coating it. Sooner or later all gasoline cars will be equiped with some kind of Particulate Filters, my bet is on the sooner than later. It won't be a DPF though, maybe a GPF. Hehe.

of course Sprinters are more costly...like comparing fixing the cost of an Escort to the cost of a Lexus....:)
All BSing aside what Mercedes does not have is "value" for that extra money. As thin as our margins are we must have that value .... period.
I've been there & done that. I will not go back.
Actually had one dealer send me mail about how I should want to pamper my MB vehicle, closed with "come on you know you want too" .

Irregardless of what they market until they change the corporate culture they will fail. And we know they will not change that. Lacking value snob appeal is all they have.

I don’t know about that... I was lucky with my van... there were moments of frustrations with it yes but no more then any other model... if one of these Fords or Dodges get more then a million miles i’d Be surprised

Ovm you are one & we all know there is always one.
Having said that the flood of those to defend MB will now appear.

I speak and will only ever speak from my own experience. I know I am not the minority in this however.

I too doubt a million milles, somewhere my sprinter (11) is chugging with another. Will it make a million ? Who cares, but not through my wallet.

I'm still thinking about this transit. As with the sprinter a point will come where costs escalate to a "time to replace level".

I do know that I may have persevered with the sprinter had the attitudes and knowledge of the service been more.
Specifically more subject matter expert type & less I'm guessing. And more I have a solution & less fluff & bubbles.
Mercedes specifically limits the number of dealerships to insure their profitability. Which also works against us.

Remember OVM....you needed to replace your engine...I wouldn't call that a million miles of just basic maintenance. I do agree that I don't think any of the current Euro sized offerings from anyone will go 1 million on basic maintenance. Moot/Scott came close with a old style US van...but I don't know if it made it.

Guess I was referring to the overall lifetime of a vehicle.. it’s the reference that MBs are costly to own...yes they might just be in some respects, but overall I have not found that to be the case.... but that’s just me and my driving style and maintaince program

Yours did work out well...those were the good years (up to 2007) cost wise for sure....especially now that it has become the Family Dollar annex.

I think that if everybody would just not worry and not take that cheap freight, thin margins wouldn’t exist and we all would have an extra stash.

Granted I'm cheap (frugal), I do not do cheap (as in freight) (cheap as in "bimbo's = OK!)
