Hi Sherry - I'm Cheri, & it's pronounced the same, just spelled funny [my Mom never could spell worth a flip;)] It's not a secret: look in the classified ads right here on EO for 'Driver wanted' - then choose which might be what you are looking for.
It's an owner you want [fleet or not], because most expedite carriers don't 'hire' drivers [they don't own the vehicles - they lease from the owners]. You would be an independent contractor, not an employee, and I suggest you read as much as you can stand on the Newbies Forum, [and look for the 'Introduction to expediting' by Phil Madsen - it's a good start] to get a better idea of what you're going for. And welcome! :)

I am very excited about getting started and I applied to LOAD ONE today.:) We are not looking to"get rich quick" just make ends meet and love to travel.
There are only a couple on driver wanted page and they are filled.was hoping someone would know an owner or fleet operator always hiring
Thanks 4 the welcome!!

Welcome. You sound like a very nice lady so I wish I had some information for you but I don't. The thing that caught my eye was "an owner or fleet operator that is always hiring, if they're always hiring, there's a reason for that and you might want to reconsider them, just one of those little things that might not jump out at you in all the excitement. Good luck and please be very careful.

I might know of a van that will become available in the next couple of weeks. It is signed on with Bolt Express right now but it could be moved if the company is OK.

The Diva makes a good point: 'always hiring' = high turnover [usually, not always] and that bears looking into carefully.
Asking owners for references [current and/or former drivers] is perfectly reasonable - people who don't can be scammed by the bad apples, and cargo vans are a popular choice for those owners: easy to find replacement drivers.
That's where reading EO can save you from making expensive mistakes: someone, somewhere has written about it here to save others from getting bit.

Cheri's right and I'll add that maybe thinking of this new adventure in a different way would help. Normally when we're looking for a way to make money, we're looking for someone to choose us to work for them. Try reversing that in your mind, you choose an owner that is worthy of your time and effort....mindsets can make all the difference in the world.

I'm not sure if your familiar with the site but use ripoffreport.com as well for any company you would be involved with. Enter All-Types in there, its scary they are still around, you dodged a bullet. Just make sure you read the posts so you know if they are just whiners or if you see a trend of them stealing.

And thanks DieselDiva for the info:)
I am getting a little confused about how to get started,I thought; apply to companies and they would have fleet owners that need drivers.but o/o would I have to have all these MC #'S
and DOT #'s or would the company I sign on with(ex:US Express) supply that. I know I sound dense but it's a little different than going to CDL class A school and getting on OTR.

The MC and DOT #'s are the company's, you would just be applying.

Owner/Operator
Finding a cargo van owner to drive for is kinda rare, they don't really make enough money to split if you have a cdl I suggest looking for a straight truck fleet and get started that way.And if you find its the life you want, then buy your van and get busy.
