The way that me and the owner are doing this is by contract where its split 50 50 i think that is ok but i do need some help and maybe some other peoples input. Like i siad im very new to this lol and wanna make good money doing it. Please help.

Who buys the fuel? Who gets the fuel surcharge? Who pays tolls, truck washes? BE sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. I can't say I have ever seen a 50-50 split. Welcome to the forums. Look forward to your posts. :)

Layout is right.... 50/50 can mean many things to many people. Watch what you're getting into there. Get the details. Afterall, conceivably, if you're in for 50% of the expenses and 50% of the revenue, you could end up paying HIM!

Its a lady who owns the truck and she sent me the contract and how it goes is when she gets the settlement every week we split right down the middle so after fuel and everything we split it 50 50 i did the figures at 1.60 a mile at 2000 miles its 3200 dollars i figure 1000 out for everything then we split the rest. We can get paid from 1.40 to 1.60 a mile so i dont know it seems better then a company cause there is no other ones out there hiring solos.

Sorry, I should have said, 'you could end up owing HIM/HER'.
In any event, just be sure you know exactly what parts you're sharing 50% of, and do some math scenarios on your own, with open eyes and no wishful thinking.
In the above part, when you say 'so after fuel and everything', what is the everything part? ie will the everything include truck lease/loan, truck repairs/maintenance? Just fuel? Just whatever comes directly off the settlement from the carrier? Make sure you know what 'everything' means.
In your scenario above, what if you got 1000 miles instead of 2000, or even 800? And what if those fewer miles were paid at the $1.40 instead of the $1.60? Would that still work for you?
Who decides how much deadhead you'll be willing to do and how far you'll be willing to go to get a load or deadhead out to a better area? Who decides when you will need to go home?
Not trying to cause alarm, just saying.. do your due diligence, and if all looks good to you, you'll be much happier to not have any surprises.

All maintenance to the truck she is covering the truck is paid off. So everything that the company takes out of the settlement then when she gets the check she splits it 50 50 and then puts my half in the bank and gives me a copy of the settlement so i know what i paid for its all in the contract it dont seem to bad just hoping i get enough miles

Who is buying the fuel? Who is getting the fuel surcharge? Paying tolls? Truck washes? From only reading what you are telling us I would feel very uncomfortable with this deal. For what it is worth, from my limited experience it is not a deal I would consider without much more informantion. It is NOT the standard deal.

The prospective operator has said the owner pays for maintenance, & the truck is paid for. He goes on to say that fuel, tolls any & all other expenses are taken off the top. Then he & the owner will split whats left. If all is spelled out in black & white and he has the sense to have an Attorney & or a Accountant familiar with this business look at it, he should be alright.

Not greedy and NOT trying to mess up anything or muddy up anything at all. Just trying to make sure the man does his due diligence. Good advice for anyone. Just trying to be sure he knew what questions should be asked. Remeber, just because he is happy does NOT mean he is being treated fairly. It also does not mean that he is not. Just trying to help.

Actually, that sounds like a pretty fair way to split things up, imho. I was just concerned that you may have been in for 50% of 'everything', including a truck payment and repairs and maintenance. Now that you have clarified that, it sounds really fair to me.. almost fairer than the more common ways of splitting.
Hopefully as you said, you will get enough miles, but that is an issue everyone is dealing with.

keep in mind that 50% you get you will have to pay taxes on.

your not gonna get 2000 miles a week

most offers to singels will be under 500 miles and you will sit.maybe once in awhile they will throw you a bone on friday that delivers on monday.

50/50 sucks a tractor will avg 5-7 mpg

at best your pay is .80 per LOADED mile after fuel alone thats gonna bring your pay down to about .43 per LOADED mile

now lets talk about deadhead at least 10% so take that off and your around .38 cents for all miles on a 2000 mile week thats gonna give you what $760 before deductions
q/c,truck insurance, occ accident insurance, what about base plates are they paid for by her or company deducted.
so at best I wouldnt count on ever having $700 dollars on you best weeks and most weeks you will have less cause they are gonna want 50 mile favors and offer you mostly 2-300 mile runs and you will be luck to get 1,000 paid miles a week so really can you live on $300 per week avg befor taxes?

if so its a good deal for the both of you

Ok, So You are Splitting what's Left Over "After" Expenses Right? My Question would be is Who Gets the Receipts for the Tax Write Off's? "Fuel, Tolls and Anything else that you buy for the truck" Because You are going to Need some Tax Write Off's to Even Out or Knock Down what your going to have to Pay when it comes to Filing your Taxes..:D

Sounds like you lucked out. Much better your going to drive for Expediter Services. Very good people to drive for. My husband and I drove for them for a year and a half. Only left them because we were offered a rolling condo. Love having the kitchen sink with me but miss the wonderful people at Expediters. Great crew!

You'll make good money driving for them and you will never have to worry about getting paid. If the truck breaks down, they've got your back! Good People, really good people! :)
