New Loyalty Card System at Petro

This may be old news to many of you. Diane and I just learned that Petro is going to a registered loyalty card system (Petro Passport Driver Rewards) in which cards are issued by name, similar to Flying J's system.

Existing cards will no longer be valid after June 30 according to a person at the fuel desk at the Bordentown, NJ Petro. Cards can be registered by phone or by using the kiosk at a Petro. Once you register, a card with your name on it will be mailed to you.

I so love giving my personal information to companies that have no need for it except to use it to track my behavior and sell me stuff.

Looking at their web site I find that your date of birth and telephone number is required to register the card. Calling to register did not help. They need that information "for security reasons."

I'm sorry, Petro. You do NOT need my personal information to secure my shower points. Get real. You just dropped to the bottom of my list. Which truck stop is my favorite? ABP...Anything But Petro!

NO KIDDING! I fight and fight to keep my personal information from being PUBLIC online. Signing up for cards such as the Petro card is counter-productive to that endeavor.

Many of these companies sell your information for MUCH money to third party companies and "BINGO" you're on their marketing list. Many of THEM then sell your information to Intelius.com or Yahoo and Google. You would be surprised how much information is online about YOU.

Go to Intelius.com sometime and type in your name under search. See if it doesn't pull up all of the places you've lived in the past several years as well as CURRENT. And for a few bucks (ANYONE) can find all that out. I prefer to be a bit more private than that.

Thanks for sharing. :D

The fuel discount at T/A is way better than anywhere else. I'll use Pilot as a last resort as they're next best it seems. I only stop at Petro once every 2-3 months for the restaurant.

Sure, when did they buy Petro? I think that if I have a T/A card, I should be able to use that instead?

As for personal information, you better start complaining about the electronic medical records and the new health system they are planning on shoving on us, your info will be more accessible by anyone once it all becomes a reality.

Exactly. Since they're moving to a new card, it would make more sense to move it to the TA card instead of creating a new program. The TA cards are registered, too, where they send you one with your name on it. At least with a registered card, if you lose the card your points can be transferred to a new card, but if you lose a Pilot card, for example, you lost your points.

"just make up information, how will they know"

If you give them a fake mailing address which results in your card being returned to them in the mail, they'll know. ;)

The thought did occur. I wonder if they would mind if I supplied Petro's phone number instead of my own. That way they could make sales calls to themselves.

Before we register Petro cards, we will check to see if you can still get showers off the fuel receipts. We use Petro so seldom anyway. Once in a great while, when on certain runs that take us near Petros and showers are not otherwise available, we will fuel up at a Petro to get the showers at the end of the run. Otherwise, like Leo, it is TA or Pilot in that order.

I thought they were like the pilot cards if they mail them to you you couldn't fib the address. As far as a phone number I never give mine out to businesses

We are careful about giving out our phone number too. But if you want a Petro card, the phone number must be provided. You cannot register a card online without providing a phone number. When we tried to register by phone, the highly-trained call center professional explained that the number is needed for security reasons. The point was lost on him that for security reasons we do not give our number out. In any event, he refused to register the cards if we did not provide a phone number AND our my date of birth.

Ridiculous.

Phil, as a former mgr. at Pilot I am assuming that Petro might be having the same type of problems with loyality cards not being registered that was happening at Pilot. This is just pure speculation on my part, but these truck stop company's can beat "big time" if they have a dishonest cashier using a loyaity card everytime the driver for what ever reason does not use his points. At the end of day the shift or day will not show short, so no "red flag" going out immediately. What they do have is a "niffty" tracking devise that will show high card usage with times, amount of points, and which location. The home office will give you a call pronto if they think there is a prolbem at your location. So the bottom line is we should suffer as customers when the problem is with the truck stop. But I am like everybody else "F-M" ; I would not give them any "vitals".
