Since someone said hey Bruno make a web page and roll with it, so I did. I will send Lawrence and Dreamer a e-mail in regards to the site. It has the start of the history of Expediting and more will be added as I collect the info from other business. Please let me know what you think so far. Maybe Teamcaffee, Greg, Davekc, and so many others it would be a long list to name can help.

Here is the link. http://expeditershalloffame.webs.com/

In your history time line, you say that Tri-State was started in '78, but the industry wasn't born until '80 with Roberts Express. Wouldn't it have been born with Tri-State Expedite?

what happen to the Expediter's history project? Maybe that needs to be the foundation for this.

So I ask again is this an industry or a niche market?

No, I was really born in 1947 with Roberts cartage do air freight until 1980 when they would only transport one customers freight at a time. 1978 is when Tri-state started up but they didn't do expediting until later.

Good start, but I was thinking more in lines of an actual "dedicated" website. Not some "free page" type of set-up that has annoying ads popping up all over it.

There are quite a few low cost servers that provide full blown websites where content needed to make your website successful are limitless.

Take this one for instance:

http://www.tiptopwebsite.com/index.html

And here is their pricing sheet:

http://www.tiptopwebsite.com/create-a-website.php

Have a friend who built his website using this service to promote his Auto Restoration company. He had no problems doing it himself, and he had no "website" building/creating experience at all. Plus, he has his own domain name and not some XXX.web.com web address.

So, at least look over it. I'd go for that $120 package where you buy one year and get one free. Right off the bat that's only $5 a month. After that, just $10 a month.

Worth a look, in my opinion.

Niche Market:

Definition: a specialized and profitable part of a commercial market; a narrowly targeted market

Niche market | Definition of Niche market at Dictionary.com:

Industry:

2. any general business activity; commercial enterprise

7. the aggregate of work, scholarship, and ancillary activity in a particular field, often named after its principal subject:

Energetic devotion to a task or an endeavor; diligence:

Industry | Definition of Industry at Dictionary.com:

My opinion, it started out back in the late 70's/early 80's as a "niche market" to service customers with a particular level of service. But as time has gone by, and multiple companies are now operating in this market employing people from all over the country who are also offering services not directly related to the "niche market" that it was founded on (ie-LTL freight), it has turned into an "industry" within itself. In other words, it has "diversified" the original intent it started out with.

Starbucks started out as a "niche market" company by offering designer coffee at dedicated locations all over the country. But, over time it also created an "Industry" within itself. People realized the market Starbucks was in and tapped into their business plan creating spin off coffee shops all over the country. Starbucks had to diversify to survive in the market, and now not only can you get coffee at Starbucks, they also offer cookies, muffins, take home coffee, hats, t-shirts, so on so on so on. Thus, "designer coffee" is no longer a "niche market", it has turned into a "worldwide" industry within itself.

Same theory/results applies to "Expediting" today. Not only are you guys running "Expedited" (time sensitive) freight, but you guys are also running LTL freight to get out of a bad area, as a backhaul back to a good freight lane, so on so on. It is now an "Industry" servicing the customers needs whether their outgoing freight is time sensitive or not.

Again, my opinion, but I believe I have a pretty good grasp at reality here.

I understand but its just a start and I can move it to its own domain name without all the pop us for a small price. I just started this last night. It takes money to do things and I will have put it in our budget each month.

I just got a paid web page for this project. I will add a link when it's done. It's going to have the History of expediting and the Expediters Hall of Fame. I just need to get a group of people together on things for the site plus touch base with Lawrence on some things.
