been using a dell inspirion 5100 for the last 4 yrs. tuesday it would not turn on. came home and gracie insisted on a visit to office depot. she had recently bought a toshiba satellite notebook there. well i came out with the same model. it was shelf priced less than hers and the sales person said, hang on we may have one in back and i may have good news for you. yes he did. it was 90 bucks less than the shelf model. seems there were some folks with a stolen cc going to stores and buying notebooks. they got caught after the card got flagged in office depot. they were caught with over 100 notebooks in their possession and still in the boxes. mine was an "old" model compared to gracies. mine sold in jan 08 and hers in july 08.

so here i sit with 250 gig hd and 2 gig of ram and a 15.4 screen and paid 440 bucks for it and the 4 yr warrenty was only 150 more. the dell was over 1200 bucks and the desktop unit from 1999 in the basement was over 1100. my how prices drop.

so if you should happen to see a man and a woman sitting at a table with dueling toshiba laptops stop by and sy hello.

Congrats on your new purchases! I have one of those as well, coming up to 3 years old now.. thought I'd share with you a little tidbit that may save you some grief.. maybe it's just me, but after almost 3 years of owning this thing, I didn't know about this until it happened!
At the very front, there is a tiny switch.. it turns the wireless thingy off and on.. mine had always been in the 'on' position, so no probs ever.. until I went travelling with it.. and it got knocked around a bit I guess, and got pushed to the 'off' position. I was trying to connect, tried 3 different places with wireless internet with no luck. Finally someone called tech support for me and the guy fortunately had experience with this model and suggested that's what the prob could be, since it happens to him as well, while on the road.
So.. if you're ever somewhere and you can't connect.. remember this post.. and check your little switch in the front.. it even has a tiny light. which I also had never bothered to notice!

I was looking at a Toshiba the other day. It had 2 separate 160gb hard drives. I like that idea. The second one could hold the operating system and all program files. It could be locked at all times so most hacking attempts couldn't get to it. The other one would hold files, music, photos etc. but none of the startup system. I believe it would offer added security. That may be my next pc unless I switch to Apple.

With the Apple you won't have the mapping software. I have a two year old Apple, and it does take time to get use to some of the stuff, but overall it is a much better computer.

my geek son who worked at radio shack then the apple store loves his macbook. he wanted to use a discount to get us at least one but the difference in price at this time made the toshiba choice a no brainer. 2 for 1 is the way to go.

his macbook has a lot of neat stuff on it just like his iphone but the prices are a killer.

My son-in-law just finished his Masters degree in Architecture, He's been with the same firm as a co-op and full time employee for around four years. I guess people that do that type of work love the Apple for what ever reason. Anyway they have to update ever two years, so the big boys let him have one of the iMAC's. He gave it to me because he's a laptop type of guy. I think new these bad boys are 2 grand.
I would have to go for a two fer one if I was paying. My 6 month old laptop is a 17" HP.

It is a bit of an annoyance trying to share some files in MS Office though. I have 2007 on my Laptop and 2004 on the Apple.
