Brad;
Do some homework by researching the various posts on the forums here on ExpeditersOnLine. I suggest reviewing the "Newbies", the "Ask the Recruiter" and the "General Expedite" forums in particular. You will find much useful info posted.
As far as getting on with an expedite carrier, I would suggest that you request informational packets or brochures from all carriers that you may be interested in. These informationals will inform you of hiring requirements that each carrier has. I'm sure you will find that many have a year, or two year, driving experience requirement. Some do not.
Another great idea prior to attempting to enter the industry would be to attend one of the Workshops presented by ExpeditersOnLine. There are some pretty good speakers at the workshops, and some companies have recruiters that you can speak to at the events.
Speak with experienced expedite drivers at truck stops. They will give interesting feedback on the industry from a driver's point of view.
If your interest continues, apply to all of the carriers that interest you. Applications are not a commitment. This will speed the qualification process once you decide on a carrier.
Good luck in your ventures,
HotFr8Recruiter
