As will become apparent by my questions I am most deffently a newbie.First of all I currently have a truck that would not be suitable for expediting .Financialy I would need to trade this truck for a suitable unit . I have been weighing the pros and cons of straight truck verses van (been reading alot of posts on this site for a few weeks) have not signed with any company yet plan to attend expo the 11th. I plan to drive solo tues thru thurs with wife teaming fri thru mon. any suggestion witch would be best -van(less cost)or straight truck(more expense and mant.) I currently have my own authority and insurance I understand from talking to a couple recruiters I do not need authority the wife and I have business experence. Leaning toword straight truck partialy because of amount needed on trade .

Expediting financial success may not be conducive to your desired schedule. Quite often, a good team load, picked up on Fri or Sat, will not deliver until Mon morning. You might then be too far from home to get your wife back to her Tues thru Turs sched. Additionally, I think you'd be running an awful lot of deadhead miles on that schedule if revenue production is a priority for you.

You'll be talking to plenty of company reps and drivers at the Expo where you'll surely be able glean enough info to develop a sound schedule and a smooth transition into expediting.

See you at the Expo, Terry

Thank you TerryRene for your timely respones to my post.
I as a solo driver would be available 24-7 as log permits of course,
the wife would like to make herself available for weekend runs as I understand it most weekend runs require a team. We are currently raising our grandson who is 12 and we have a few more years before she would be available full time. Other than the school year my wife is available. At this point it may require some dead heading. Do have someone in place if we get hung up a day or two. Or is it possible to do this solo and make a living until she is more available. If possible we would like to meet with you at the expo, I know being in the business that your time is limited but think I could benifit greatly from your wealth of information.

Rene' and I will be pleased to meet you at the EXPO and chat all day, if you like; that's one of the reasons we go, the camraderie.

I suspect a mid-MI single straight truck driver would likely do financialy better than trying to juggle a schedule with a co-driver. Fitting your wife in on an ad hoc basis would probably add to the pleasure of the business as well as the wallet. I trust you'll be able to develop a plan after you've been to the Expo.

See you there, Terry
