Expediting is no different than other business ventures , it is subject to the economic realities of supply and demand.Economic upturns or downturns affect it on a regular cycle. With expediting however as an owner-operator you can only do so much to enhance your business possibilities, unlike other businesses you can't drum up new customers. You are dependent on your carrier to get more customers.

Many on this forum have cautioned potential owner-operators to have a sound business plan, operating capital, and ideally another source of income, to weather the ups and downs of self employment.

Expediting owner- operators and the carriers are BUSINESSES.

BUSINESSES FAIL EVERY DAY.

The point is that as a newbie or a seasoned vet, if you have thought out your business venture and allowed for unforeseen difficulties , and put forth the effort needed to make a business succeed it probably will.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN THIS DIFFICULT ENVIRONMENT. THINGS WILL NATURALLY SORT THEMSELVES OUT!

Many get dreamy eyed from thinking of the "paid tourist concept" and purchasing a new truck, and fail to look at all the realities.

I remember when I first got into the expediting business(three and a half years ago) fuel was less expensive. I'd recieve at least four load offers everyday, was grossing $2,500 to $3,000 a week, and was planning on buying a new Volvo 770 truck. It was gonna be a beauty the engine was gonna be a 500hp Detroit Diesel(because I love a lot of power) mated to a 13 speed tranny. I had a 22' temp. controled box already pick out with a Thrmo Kink refer unit. I can go on and on, but to make a long story short, something told me to wait a year,"don't take the plunge just yet". I'm glad I listened to that little voice or else I'd be selling my blood just to pay for fuel and the truck payments.

The life of a trucker isn't easy but it sure is fun.
