For now, the alerts are capable on certain high-end cell phones but starting next year, all cell phones will be required to have the chip that receives alerts.By the end of the year, the new system will be in place in New York City and Washington and in cities around the country by the end of 2012.

I am "opted IN' for local alerts at home, but that is my choice. Thankfully the story here says you can opt OUT, kinda reminds me of the old Columbia House record club.

"Consumers would be able to opt out of all but those presidential messages."

That's a little disturbing. Janet Napalitano at Walmart bleeting at us to keep alert, emergency announcements from the president, surveyance cameras in street lights, TSA feel-ups. Soon we will see the megaphones on street poles droning out alerts to keep us all in order.

On a lighter note... hey, just like England!

Yea thats true, but sooner then later we will start to see LEO's standing on corners and ramdomly pulling subjects, i mean citizens aside and saying, "papers please'.....and the terrorist will avoid that like the plague....so we will all feel safer....

They already do this out on the Detroit River. Detroit Police, Border Patrol etc pull fishermen over all the time checking for "papers".

Yeah, but the alerts are all pretty much bogus anyway, so we'd all be dealing with the same fiction, which keeps the playing field level.

Besides, your chances of being directly affected by a real terrorist are pretty close to zero to start with.

Darn, Ragman, I did NEED to sleep tonight!! Now I will be having nightmares!!! Looks like a cross between an English MP and a pro wrestler, VERY LIGHTWEIGHT pro wrestler. Like the powder puff division!!

Never happen. No matter what bad things you could say about Patton, wimp did not apply. If I had to compare Obama to a WWII type it would be Mussolini. A clown, a puppet, arrogant and mean spirited. He and Obama spend a LOT of time looking down their noses as they speak.
