Do other states do this or is this yet annother New York State exclusive.

12/27 12 apx 10:00am durring a snow storm Some kid backed into my womans car. He decided the intersection was a good place to unlock his front hubs. No one was hurt, she called the sherif and NYS no longer writes an MVA report on the spot suposed to free up the deputies to fight crime you usualy have to pick it up next day or two later at the station. No problem, Ive done it before. O.K., mabey it was a bussy day for M.V.A. reports, and maybe he didnt want to get doughnut filling on his reprot however, the deputy aparently had the time to tickett the kid on the spot for unsafe backing but hasent had time to get the M.V.A. report done when we called one week later Saturday A.M.
Tell me as I am trying to figure out why we call the cops for an accident report.

Bob Wolf.

Lots of places don't respond to MVA's when no one is hurt and the cars can be safely driven off.

The locals won't write a report if your in a business unless injuries ,here either. But they will give a ticket quick.

But let someone back into one of them your in deep dodo. I have witnessed that before in Lowes parking lot here at home.No damage to either car. There were 4 cars that came in with lights and siren going full blast.
A little ole man backed into the tire of the parking enforcements car that was sitting in a DISABLE PARKING SPOT with NO handicap sign.
I was fit to be tied.

In Cleveland Ohio you have to take a taxi or bum a ride to the cop house to report a stolen car! My new van 6 weeks old ,I saw it driving away from a building I was working in out the window called cops and they point blank told me to come in and make a report.

OVM,I understand that but when one of their own gets bumped they don't have to act the way they did. It was just a tire that got bumped. And the car didn't have to be parked in a Handicaped parking spot.

let me or you park there and they see us we get a ticket. That is also what ticked me off so bad.

I read that part...unless the officer was going to block the lanes of travel and had no option...and when or IF someone needed the spot the officer could easily move....

tknight: Did you leave the keys to the van in the van? If so, check this out: Lawriter - ORC - 4511.661 Unattended motor vehicles.

If I remember right this is taught in drivers ed class when we where kids. I honestly didn't know it was a law or local ordnances,I just thought it was common sense. What I'm wondering is how often this is enforced esp with law enforcement,,city vehicles,,and a whole assortment of Gov vehicles that are left idling and unattended every day as they jump out and fuel,,eat lunch, etc etc..

As far as tknights post I find it pretty amazing they don't act on a crime in progress by at least taking some sort of fast report regardless if the keys where in it or not, and tell him to treat it as a walk-in report.
Just kinda more proof there is no sense in calling for help anymore. He may have had better luck chasing his van down on his own. SAD
