My son and his new authority t/t

My 42 year old adult child now has his own authority and is happy so far. He is a busy driver and wishes he had done this years ago. Ink , frozen chicken, and now a truckload of peanut butter on it way to Pa. He does use his refer truck for all loads and this has opened up a lot of opprotunity other then dry van loads.

The new part now is finding brokers, but he is solving that slowly and reading the loadboard data in his truck and the wife is reading them at home as well.

If any of you have any input in operating with your own authority, you can pm me and I will forward it to him. I told him to join in here asap so he can learn more. :)

Just make sure he is not bidding to low. Some guys get the idea that they were making $1.80/mile at company ABC so now that is the rate they bid at when they go out on their own.

Other than bidding too low, the first thing he needs to learn is that with a wife at home, having his own authority is just an illusion.

Following up on that Authority thing: My son is now wondering why he did not get his own authority years ago. Nothing past Tx. Sounds like the advice that is given in here all the time. Produce is now coming out of Tx and the frozen chicken and beer hauls are good. Christmas trees will be coming soon.................................

I have a memory of hauling chicken back when I was a courier. Bad memories. Your son has a refrigerated trailer though, so I imagine that might make a difference.

Nothing past Texas might be the norm for the {basicly} inexperienced posters on here. He now has North America (assuming Canadian Authority) as his lunchbox. He just needs to recognize that fact. I'd not be too quick to advise him to read too much into how to run his business by reading posts from Contractors, he is in a whole nuther world now.
