My loads last week

Last week I got a load with 2 stops, one in Cinci, and one in Atlanta.
Off I go, arrive in Cinci at midnight, find the address, realize it is the Postal Service, short BMC, pull up to the gate, and the lovely guard tells me in such a nasty way that I can't be granted entry with my van, since I am not dock high and I have to be turned away...!!!
I almost snapped at that time. There I am, tired already, and I can't get the first load off the van??? I called dispatch, they called the original transportation company. Of course nobody available at the time. I have to go to sleep and wait untill the next morning. I do not have a good feeling with this. Next morning dispatch hooks me up with a o/o in town. I find the address and get a rude awakening, it is his private address and he is still asleep! After he yells and swears at me, I get another address with a warehouse and dock where I will be unloaded. I get there, they have no overhead door, no forklift and no idea. So I have to unload the crap myself and get going.
By now I have lost almost a half day and I am not in a good mood.
For hours I am trying to convince dispatch to check the other drop off location since this is another BMC. My request falls on deaf ears.
I get there in the afternoon with the fear that they might close for the day before I reach the gate. But I am lucky. Even I am in a cargo van, they will unload me! I back up to the dock, get the paperwork taken care off and wait. A lovely woman tells me in a very nasty way that she can not pull the skid forward from my van, and therefore I should get out of the van and unload it myself! After some screaming and some more swearing, a supervisor shows up, tells the lovely woman how to do her job and finally I get unloaded.
I wipe the sweat off my forhead and drive off to find a place to eat.
Anybody ever had the same problems???

Well there for awhile I thought I delivered your Cincy load. When you said the O/O was kicking and swearing, well that was not me. I was woke up yesterday to take two skids to the BMC here on Crescentville rd because a Van was turned away.

I delivered to BMCs for awhile and buddy they are never happy people even when you are in a dock high truck. I can relate to your story since I was just involved in the exact same thing.

What a brave soul! Someone yelled at a postal employee!!! I hope you had a bullet proof vest on : )
It sounds like an everyday scenario for the Visteon Sterling Heights Axle plant. Those pampered ##### cry babies that work on that dock are not happy unless the freight unloads itself. Cracks me up, that company is nearly bankrupt and you have $38/hr dock employees upset that they have to unload a truck.
Wonder why they would close up and move to Mexico???

I feel your pain Miko, there's nothing more annoying like driving all night trying to deliver a load as safely as you know how only to have the people where your delivering treat you like crap. Lets hope your next load takes you to a fun and magical place like Micheal Jackson's "Neverland Ranch", where you can sleep in his bed, and eat all the candy you want.LOL Stay safe and don't drive mad.

I have a question, What is BMC?. And a comment, Kudos to all those of us who feel that way about the Visteon Sterling Heights plant. Now there's a bunch who needs a "real world" job to wake them up from their weekly bath of money.

BMC stands for Bulk Mail Center. I did not realize that it was the Postal Service untill I could not find a company with that shortcut. I drove up and down on Crescentville Rd. untill I spotted a Truck with the 3 letters on there and it dawnend on me what that might be. I was right and surprised that the shipper didn't put that on my paperwork in the first place. But now I am a bit wiser and prepared for ther next one to come!

@Raceman: You don't live on Dixie Hwy. in Florence, do you??? LOL

And as for the pain I endured, on my way back from Atlanta I stopped in Florence again and treated myself to some awesome lunch snack at a German Cuisine place!:p

I think that we all have our horror stories to tell. (A long list).
Since I have been in the expediting business, it seems that the only
way to learn anything is to fall on your face first.

I was lucky enough to get a run from Huntsville to Camden, AR with a return load the very next morning. Yeah!!!

Both of these loads were where one driver had to be awake and in the front of the cab at all times. OK. Delivery at 6am. We got there at 2:45. I figured that if delivery was 5 central, maybe they were 24 hr. I called dispatch, wrong. So I sat up the rest of the night.

Next morning we get unloaded and to our next stop, around the corner. Got loaded in no time. We call dispatch and ask them what time does the facility on the other end close; we want to offload so we don't have to stay up all night long again.
Tough luck!! Tomorrow morning to unload. Up again, all night.

We were told that this is a place that we ship to and from all the time. Looking back, it would have been nice if we had been told before loading that we could not unload until the next morning. Get some sleep during the day, load up in the late afternoon, and be on our way to deliver the next morn. and not be totally fried.
Well we are totally fried now but I will know better next time.

It there's an expediter who doesn't have a horror story, then they're on crack. I like to learn from bad experiences in this business, and have learned that for every 10 loads you get, something isn't gonna go your way. Especially if your in New York.
