I had to go to Orlando this weekend, pretty good trip but bizarre. I like Florida; I guess it is the weather, warm in comparison to Michigan – Cold.
When I was heading down there I fueled up at Exit 2, I 75 just north of Florida. When I pulled in I was watching someone else from Michigan in a VW Jetta circle the commercial pumps – round and round this guy went for a few minutes – through the pumps isle turn around and through the pump isle again. Then he stopped at a pump got out with some kid and proceeded to fill his car, just bizarre. Guy was filthy and the car had a dealer plate on it, so I assumed he either was a salesman or stolen the car.
Well after he fueled up, I ended up behind him at the light to go back on I-75 and when that light turned green, he was gone – never knew Jettas could move so fast. About 20 minutes later I passed him, the cops and a tow truck – he slammed into the guard rail and looked like he totaled the car. I attribute his accident to being plain stupid and n a hurry to see Mickey at 3 AM.
So today I get off the Florida turnpike and head up I-75 back to Atlanta. Enjoying the scenery, the sun shine, the dry weather - I counted 9 seperate accidents along the way. Many of them were spin outs, a few were over turned cars or cars on their sides and a couple were rear end collisions – all like what you would have with a heavy rain storm but it was a sunny clear dry warm day. Now I don’t know what the causes were for a lot of them, maybe road conditions but witnessing two spinouts today and seeing nothing caused them other than the driver losing control going straight – no cars cutting them off – actually for one he was in the middle of two groups of vehicles and lost control. Everyone that I could see was a Florida plated car, I missed a few but I assume they were also Floridians behind the wheel. oh yea I only saw one elderly couple driving a Cadillac who rear ended a car. Is this like the Bermuda triangle for Florida drivers that causes so many accidents or do they teach this to the drivers here in Florida?
Bizarre!
