Against everyone’s advice, I am again in Florida. This time I am staying to see if I ever get out instead of spending $100 to get somewhere else.
This is a weird place! Can’t afford much, it is either MATS or sight seeing here in Florida – I want to go to MATS. Well I decided to stay and enjoy the warm (cold to these Floridians) weather – home is 34 F.
So here are the weird observations;
People who seem to come from the subway (NY) are walking around in a daze dress like surfer dudes or financial advisors. They seem to forget to change for a month and need to get a hair cut.
Peacocks running in the middle of the street (wonder if they taste like chicken.) in downtown – it beats the pack of pit bulls running around downtown Detroit.
Seeing old people (don’t say anything, they have to be in their nineties) who can’t see, trying to back up their RV with the guidance of their wives who also can’t see screaming at each other; I now know why there are so many bill boards around advertising lawyer services for auto accidents; they are really really big signs.
Ahh Spring break; sitting at the stop light and being flashed by girls who were too drunk to realize that their also flashing the cops who are next to me, we all smiled and the cops pulled them over. An addition to this was trying to leave a gas station when I was told I could not go until I tell three girls who’s are better (no lie – my wife is really p***ed at me for not running them over – I forget to shut up some times). No comment about what I said.
Four types of palm trees all over and for the first time in my life I am sick of seeing palm trees. Yes I can name all but one; Needle, Windmill, Palmetto and something that I saw overseas a long time ago – I think the fourth one is a date palm but not sure.
Being able to find ten different types of espresso coffee at a few stores and being able to afford them.
Having a Cuban Monte Cristo sandwich, not Monte Crisco sandwich – I would recommend it, as a matter of fact I would recommend a Cuban sandwich. Next on the list of have to try sandwiches is a Welsh Rabbit and croque-monsieur.
Amazement to see kids sitting on laps while the driver is traveling at high speeds and whipping in and out of traffic all the while cops just look and keep going. I also seen a new born sitting on the mother's lap with a bottle in its mouth while the mother was on the phone – and driving - this is the ultimate in multitasking idiots, beats the biker who was eating a big mac, talking on the phone and riding down the freeway.
Watching buzzards (I first thought they were vultures but told otherwise) gathering around a bovine waiting for meal time. Also discovered where grape fruits come from – the truck in front of me as it spills grapefruit on to the road and I run them over. Sticky tires!
Seeing rust on a car and realizing that it is from Michigan.
The number of Canadians down here is just truly amazing. I don’t understand how they can come from the Northwest Territory and not miss the great cold weather. Next to me are a couple from New Brunswick – I said hi several times to them but either they don’t speak English or they don’t like me.
Discovering at Wal-Mart that I am the only non-tanned person in the entire store so I was up early to catch some rays and it was overcast.
Watching a commercial for Palm Beach County that is talking about reading the same book – to kill a mocking bird – getting the county reading the same book. I thought that Palm Beach County was too rich to read, they hire someone to read for them. Beside this where I come from it is hard enough to get a kid to read, even if they could, let alone an adult and they surly don’t try to get anyone to read an old book – maybe an Oprah book club book.
Till next time…
