December 31, 2009 a nearly identical "missile launch" was reported in the same general location, just off the coast of Los Angeles. There have been several others just like it.

In my 20 years of working in that business I can say that I never saw an unintended ground to air/space missile launch, from ANY country. Saw an unintended air to air launch once. That led to the demise of the pilot that lost his missile, and his wing man. Gives a whole new meaning to a "pre-trip" inspection. If they had checked the connections they might have lived through the day. As it turned out, they did not, and became shark food.
