More Truck Stop Fitness Options

I like the idea of a fitness room at a truck stop. Add to that some shore power parking spaces that perhaps could be reserved in advance, or some "designated" parking spaces with shore power and/or some more dump station locations and they'd increase their bottom line numbers much more.

Personally, if I had my choice of parking at a half way "respectable" truck stop with a fitness room versus another regular half way "respectable" truck stop, I'd choose the fitness room location. Simply because I could stretch my legs and get a workout regardless of the weather outside. Treadmills, bikes, some leg press machines and some arm workout machines would be really nice. Jazz it up with some TV's on some of the machines, or weather and news TV's mounted high up with captions so we would not have to constantly hear it.

just my 2 cents.

That would be nice, but where are these specific locations going to be? I'd actually use a facility like this.

Unfortunately I think its probably 3 years away before there is enough of them to make it worthwhile. But if you can access the 1300 snap locations, then it would be a good deal (at least for those of us in a van).

Currently, there are 21 at the TA's and the plan is to add 10 at the Pilots in the new year. It would be pretty rare at this point to be within dead heading distance of those T/S's imo.

But its a great initiative and if I past by one, I'd definitely use it to try encourage more.

I had this same idea a few years back and snaps jacked me. Too bad I didn't open up a fitness shop. It's a brilliant idea in concept as all you would need is a mobile trailer or two to go right on top of the asphalt of an existing truck stop parking lot. There won't be much involved in constructing the centers, they can even lease the trailers to cut down on start-up expenses. The only thing I do fear is that there aren't enough "Sylvester Stallone over the top" type of drivers who work out and arm wrestle. I think a lot of truck drivers won't really take advantage of these centers and business people stay at really nice hotels which already have exercise rooms. Why would a business guy leave his hotel to come on a 2 hour tour of the truck stop underworld lol!
