Moot Stewart's Holiday Decorating Tips

Greetings and happy Independence Day gentle readers. Whether you are entertaining fellow expediters at a liftgate party, having a picnic lunch at a rest area, sitting in your van at a truck stop or sharing a bottle of wine with friends under a freeway overpass, beautiful homemade table accessories add sparkle to the ambience of any setting. The proper table decorations can turn a soda cracker with peanut butter and sardines into a caviar canapé. Remember, it's all in the presentation!

I like to use common, everyday "truckhold" items to create works of art to brighten up my holiday table. For my July 4th holiday table I chose to decorate a wheelchock to use as a table centerpiece. Regular readers to this thread shouldn't be surprised by my choice of a wheelchock as the basis for my holiday decorating scheme. The common wheelchock when properly outfitted will become the highlight of your dining experience. This simple, but elegant centerpiece was created using only paper, a printer, tape, sparklers and of course a wheelchock. This time of year sparklers can be found at roadside stands across the land. If you can't afford sparklers, 3 or 4 fusees will bring some extra excitement to your table and burn much longer. A word of caution when substituting fusees for sparklers, don't let any of that molten lava stuff drip on to your canapé platter. Also if you are celebrating under a bridge, keep any fortified wine a safe distance from burning fusees and other open flames. Have a safe and fun filled 4th of July.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!

I was taken aback a bit by this frivolous post at first. Things have been a bit tense here lately, and understandably so. An expediter changing carriers certainly sends ripples throughout our industry. What will happen to expediting as we know it? With tempers on edge, can we ever be a happy family again? With the pages and pages of debate, can we achieve peace and harmony? Or, will we be forever divided?

With this thread, I believe Moot is telling us it's O.K. to laugh again. Thank you, Moot. We can begin to heal.

FRIVOLOUS POST? FRIVOLOUS POST! WHAT IN THE SAM FREAKING HILL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! I'M TRYING TO OFFER UP A SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE WAY TO CELEBRATE OUR COUNTRY'S INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Uh, sorry. I jumped the gun. I should have read your entire post before blasting you. Yeah, I guess I'm a little tense also. Carry on!

Originally my simple table centerpiece was meant as a patriotic expression and a small way to honor our country's birthday. But after reading your post in full, I am hoping that the wheelchock will become a unifying symbol for not only the E.O. Nation, but expediters everywhere. Together, we can survive these trying times! I'm sticking with my carrier to the bitter end!

Yes, please laugh at me, not with me. Let the healing begin!

As an aside note: I mentioned sticking with my carrier to the bitter end. Is it the end? I am OOS but got a load offer Friday for a pick up Tuesday, which is cool by me. I missed the call and couldn't retrieve the voice mail until Saturday because I bought a new phone and couldn't figure out the voice mail thing. Anyway, I tried to get the load offer sent over the QC because I wasn't interested in trying to beat my personal best time of 67 minutes on hold via telephone. Got some moron on the other end of the QC and gave up. I can't log in on the owner's web to find out more info on the load. Is Panther still in business? Oh well!

Thanksgiving? We still have Labor Day, Columbus Day, Yom Kippur, Halloween, Veterens Day, and Cheri's birthday to plan for.

They're still in business, and sounds like not much has changed. Remember when I got a call from a fellow O/O asking me to check her status online, because it wouldn't let her sign on? When I did, I could hardly stop laughing long enough to tell her that she'd been 'let go by the owner' [on account of she was the owner]. I think it took 3 days for her to get that one straightened out.
You guys have waaay more patience than I do, lol.
PS We can sing 'Kumbiyah' at the Expo, but as always, only if there's helium involved. :D

Ya know Moot, when I first read your post my eyes kind of glazed over and I was ready to go all "Incredible Hulk" with a scathing all caps post. "WHAT IS IT ABOUT AN EXPEDITER HAS SWITCHED CARRIERS THAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!"

But, I took a deep breath, walked away from the 'puter for a moment, and then realized what you were trying to do.

It's all good my brutha. Much love. Peace out.
