Monster Winter Storm to Hit Northeast

Media and mayoral hype aside, this storm looks like one to avoid or sit through. Traffic is bad enough in the Northeast as it is. In weather like this, what's the point of even trying? Stay safe. Stay comfortable. If you're in the area now, find a parking place before the storm hits and settle in for a cozy couple of days in the sleeper.

If you are new to the business, don't worry about a late delivery or pickup. Chances are the shipper or consignee won't be there to meet you anyway. No one will doubt that you are legitimately delayed by conditions beyond your control.

(Reporting live from sunny Florida; a former expediter who got out of the business partly to be done with winter. God be with you, drivers. Be safe.)

Sure, rub it in! :p

That's not the intent. I remember well the winter storm events. Having been away from it for a season, the contrast is huge. As one now on the receiving end of truck freight, I can easily say that people will understand if you hole up to sit out the storm. Some may not like it but with reports like these, it's hard not to understand, even if you're in a sunny place. New York is a national media market and the news will be filled with storm reorts for the next two days.

That is sure to create a nightmare on the roads. I wouldn't be surprised if the roads weren't cleared up until late Wednesday or Thursday.

It's going to be a rough one, at least, that is what the "news DOOODS" are hyping. It's already a "historic" storm, that has not even hit yet.

It's winter, this happens. It has for years, and likely will for years to come. One would think that they would be prepared for winter by now, being that it is absolutely, nothing new.

Once it hits the "excuse train" will leave the station.

But...but...snowstorms have names now. So they MUST be worse now

I'm gonna miss this one. Almost got part of it, but the Alberta Clipper went South of us today so we got maybe an inch.

About when it gets bad--- stopping is a really good idea. I've been on that ride where you spin around and end up in the ditch, it's a ride I'll gladly never do again-- at least outside of carnival rides. Ain't no load worth wrecking, possible injury and possibly losing your life. (Note: That time I ended in the ditch I was doggone lucky. The Grey Lady stayed upright, and a tow got me out of the ditch and back under way with only my pride hurt. Could have been much worse, and I've seen the videos since that prove that.)

Yeah, the names are the problem! LOL!! It could NEVER have ANYTHING to do with the flimflam politicians and their lap dogs in the "news business".

What a crock. There are MILLIONS in those cities, give 'em shovels and make them get off their butts and learn to deal with life for a change.

I will never forget, when we lived in SC, how when there was a prediction of snow, even just a trace, there was a run on the stores, shelves were emptied of bread and milk. Why bread and milk? I have no idea. We used to just laugh for hours at the spectacle.

I'm getting there, this weather scares me, and I've been expediting more than five years...never this bad though. Actually quitting soon and heading for Florida.

Winter storms are easy to avoid. Most of the time there is plenty of warning that they are coming. Preparation is kind of simple. I am more bothered by the idea of tornadoes, when there is little warning and even more so when they hit at night.

Far more are killed in storms in warm weather than are killed in cold weather storms.

Major winter storm no reason a pro driver should get caught unaware .... It's our job to stay informed! Lake effect with streamers/bands are harder to predict how bad it'll be... But with experience you should know when you are in the zone!
