Red U.S. Express Enterprises Truck and Truck Driver: Heads up Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky: US Express, Truck number: L7378, trailer number: 703655, Drivers name: Linda Richards.

The red Peterbilt loaded in the Macon, Georgia and was intended to deliver in Chicago, Illinois on Monday, 8/20/2012 but did not show .

Linda was supposed to go by her home, in the Nashville area, but did not.

Phone is off and satellite apparently disconnected.

Last known to have made ATM withdrawals in the Forsyth, Georgia then disappeared.

Projected route: She should have gone 75 north through Georgia to Chattanooga, Tennessee then I-24 to Nashville. From there she could have gone either I24 to Indiana, then I57 to Chicago, or I-65 north thru Kentucky then on up to I90 to Chicago.

If you see this truck contact 911 immediately and inform them of the alert/search. If you can, stay in view of the truck without approaching until law enforcement arrives.

From US Express Facebook page:
U.S. Xpress Operations was able to locate Linda on Thursday evening in Cartersville, Ga. She is safe and doing well after feeling very sick for the past couple of days. We also recovered the truck and trailer. We are extremely grateful for all the care and concern shown by the entire USX Driving Community. We appreciate all your efforts on Linda's behalf. Like you, we are very thankful that our collective search has a happy ending.

Too sick for three days to make a phone call to dispatch?

Why was the sat turned off?

Hmmmmmm

It makes me wonder about the kind of characters are out there running freight! Frankly this type of behavior scares me as a broker. I guess I better get a pallet stacked 70 inches high with tums and a good insurance agent, accountant, and attorney! Even when the truck has a tracking unit on it the driver can still pull the cord. So even tracking units are not the answer to bad drivers unless the driver does not know that there is a tracking unit on the truck. Any how I'm glad to see the driver is fine and that the customer has recovered their freight. Perhaps if the shippers paid more money to have their freight moved and carriers paid higher wages to their drivers we would attract a better class of driver.

When I drove for Arnold I was driving a USX truck since they own Arnold. I'm not sure who thought it was a fantastic idea but the QC they use shut off after a certain period of the truck being off, I believe it was around 2 hours. It was certainly not a smart idea but they seemed to think it was.

When shippers pay more, brokers keep more.
You'll have drivers doing the same stuff. Drivers are drivers.
I had one of the better paying O/O jobs in the country,
Two guys had 32' boats. One guy collected bi-wing planes.
One carried $6000 cash so he could handle any emergency.
Life was good.
Were they better drivers ? Some were. Others drank better whiskey, sat in higher stake games in Vegas, etc.
We still had guys get DWI's in the truck.
One guy put in for his pension and realized he never divorced his first wife !
Drivers will be drivers, regardless of income.

Back in September I was too sick to call into dispatch for four days. It was pretty bad.
Why was the sat turned off?

Hmmmmmm
I don't know that it was, and neither does anyone else. The alert only said "apparently" disconnected, which can look like that if the truck is parked by a building or tree blocking the satellite signal.

It's rarely wise to assume something beyond what is known.

Ditto. About 2 years ago, in El Paso: 5 days of nothing but sips of water, I was too sick and weak to care about calling anyone. First time I stepped out of the truck, I barely made it to the building, and only kept going because I'd realized that the tiny little black bats circling the light in the sleeper weren't real - I was hallucinating from dehydration.
No drugs, just the flu. Apparently, I'd never actually had it before.

Undoubtedly, higher wages just give scum drivers (and non-drivers) more money. As a comic whose name I don't remember said, "I have a real fat friend who I was watching TV with one day, and Brad Pitt came on the screen. My friend said, 'If I had his money, I could look like that.' I told him, 'Kenny, if you had his money, you'd just buy better food.'"
But otoh, higher wages would attract a better class of driver, diluting the the effect of the low-class drivers.
I saw this in the guard industry years ago, in which companies were pretty much in the situation of having to hire the next thing that walked in the door that fit into one of their uniforms, and all because they wouldn't pay enough to attract anybody with other options. At least if you pay more, some of your ranks will be filled with higher caliber people.

Boy how quick some here jump on the driver without knowing all the facts yes she could have been too sick to call dispatch and if she parked near a building , tree, or what ever that could have blocked the qualcomm signal. and yes most companies have the qualcomm shut down after a set time so as not to run down the batteries. I dont know of any company that leaves the qualcomm on and running 24/7

Yes it sounds strange but sounds like family was concerned too...she never made it home either. So who are we to judge how sick she was or wasn't?
