I seen on the news today that the border is opening up to Mexican trucks supposedly in the next 60 days. They will be able to travel anywhere in the US. I was curious as to everyones thoughts.
Could be interesting in some of the border towns for freight.

Read a few article's on it, And seem's like a lot of Mexico's trucking companies want stay close to the Boarder because of all the red tape they will have to deal with...So I guess time will tell.

You are correct in that it won't be every Mexican carrier. I believe 100 companies are starting out first, out of 160 that applied to come in.
It could wind up being less than 100 depending on how these FMCSA audits go.

There is a good chance it will gut trucking as we know it... This is only a start... 100 all major carriers will recruit and operate with housing and services to carry their mexican drivers acrooss the us.. They will stop woooing americans to drive and will concentrate on the cheaper labor. That would be swift conway JB hunt and a lot of U.S carrieres operating out of Mexico with probably good equipment and a good organization and a lot of pull in Mexico city and washing ton THIS WILL NOT BE PEDROS TRUCKING WITH A 10 TRUCK FLEET...this will be well organized and a progressive move to chang North american transportation.. The pie will get smaller, and the money will be gutted out of the loads.. IT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

Now i've heard that in return for allowing Mexican compaines in, US carriers get to operate in Mexico. This would be VERY good for expedite as a lot of auto companies are moving plants there, no more dropping the load of shocks at Laredo, now you get to take them the extra 500 miles to the plant and bring back the empties right away.

Forgot to add, Mexican companies can only deliver to a US town and return to Mexico they will not be able to do interstate transport, so basicly all this means it the start of the end for border town warehouses.

Do you honestly think that because they won't be allowed to do interstate, they won't? Illegals aren't "allowed" in our country. I say we all go tell them they aren't "allowed" to take our freight.

Can you say new chapter in cheap freight?

Ok, if American carriers start sending sending its O/O's into Mexico, can you imagine how much your insurance will increase? I've been to Mexico a few times, and driving there is total chaod.

It will be interesting to see if expedited carriers will be among the American carriers that will be allowed to cross into Mexico.
I am not too sure that I would want to go there with Mexico's reputation for crime and corruption.
Just in case, does anyone know how to say " Take my truck but don't kill me." in Spanish.

I am imaging a large western Mexican seaport rising up and Walmart and the big importers and even the foreign automakers directing the cargo ships there thus avoiding the longshoremens union in Cali and trucking it up to the U.S. and even Canada.

How do you think a mexican non english speaking truck driver would do dropping off at a UAW plant? After a while I think the consignee would request american drivers. Reading maps, following directions, getting threw truck stops and wiegh stations? I dont think the problem will be to bad, at first anyway. As for going to Mexico. If im not mistaken mexico is #2 in the world for kidnapping/ransom crimes.
