"And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger."

Christmas is bittersweet, for me
Thinking that some are alone,
Soldiers apart from their loved ones,
Some who will never come home.

"Peace on Earth, goodwill to men"
May never happen, I fear
But it's my heartfelt Christmas wish
To one & all this year.

It doesn't come in a gift wrapped box,
You won't find it in any store
"Peace on Earth, goodwill to men"
The best gift of all: an end to war.

Merry Christmas to all, wherever you are.

Well, it's a few days late... but,
I hope everybody had a Merry Christmas.

Christmas Eve I was in Clinton, SC
(about an hour south of Greenville, SC).
Early Christmas morning, about 430 AM I drove my car down to Ocala, FL where my mom is. It rained the Entire time from Clinton, SC to Ocala, FL. Then, we got into Moms car and she drove into Clearwater, FL where my grandparents are. It rained the entire time from Ocala, FL until just on the outskirts of Tampa. We had supper in Dunnedin (slightly north of Clearwater).
Then went back to Clearwater briefly.
Then drove back to Ocala.
Stay with me...
December 26th we left Ocala, FL about 5pm roughly.
Arrived back home in SC about 230 AM on the 27th.
The 27th we had lunch at my wifes grandparents in town...
then had supper at her parents house... in town.
Supper was: Lasagna that my mom made in Florida.
December 28th I stayed indoors a vast majority of the day...
organizing gifts recieved in 2 states from 5 different houses in 5 different states.
December 28th, I also enjoyed watching DVD's on 1 of our 3 new DVD players. Yes, we got 3 DVD players for Christmas.
December 29th I finally got a chance to get to the library to get online. Hi there!

In my Christmas travels, the 23rd when I went down to the Columbia, SC mall, then decided to go to Greenville, SC (where I should have went in the 1st place)... I ran over 250 miles that day.
The 24th was cake, as I stayed in town.
The 25th, Christmas...
In the morning, I passed all the empty truckstops and rest areas.
During the evening, Christmas Nite, I passed somewhat full truckstops and rest areas.
I ran all told on the 25th... about 690 miles.
On the 26th, into the 27th, it was about 480 miles.
My car ran 940 miles between the 25th and 230 AM on the 27th.
All miles in my car and my moms car, I traveled about 1,200 miles.
Not bad for 2 days.

While some might be tempted to say....
it's Too bad I couldn't have gotten paid for all those miles.

I did get paid... However, I got something better than money.
I got opportunities; and irreplacable time...
To see my grandparents who've been married now 46 years.
to see My uncle who is 93.
I got to have Christmas with 2 wonderful families.

Time is irreplacable. Money can be had and lost.
Time, once it's gone, you can not replace it.

During my Christmas time, I was happy to see all that I got to see during the holiday. I was happy to see all the trucks parked in front yards instead of truckstops. I was happy to see no busses moving. There were no Wal-Mart SuperCenters open, no Cracker Barrels open... in fact, even very few convenience stores were open.

The truckstops were open, but "mostly" serving people like me...
People who were traveling to spend time with loved ones.

All those who I met in my travels were appreciated, they might not have been happy - but I tried to put a smile on their faces, and thank them... and let them know that I appreciated them.

I got to thinking... Waffle Houses, some small gas stations, truckstops, and a few select drug stores were really the only things open on Christmas morning.

These people were there, while others were relaxing and (hopefully) enjoying themselves. Most truck drivers were home or off for the day. For a day out of 365, America changed. Trucks and the transportation industry rested... while America enjoyed the fruits of the labor of the American Truck Driver and their support staff. Smile.

Christmas is a special time of year. For me, it's a time to look back on my year and see where I've been and gone and how far I've come... not in just in miles and cities though,
but in life.

I bought myself a new car.
I got a wife (not a mail order one either), and
a baby is on the way.
Christmas is a special time of year,
I hope that it was special to those who read this.

I hope all who read this had a very Merry Christmas, and have a very Happy and prosperous New Year.

Sincerely,

BigBusBob
