Can those of you familiar with EGR failures on the MBE 900 share some knowledge on this subject? The EGR valve on our truck has been replaced twice within 2 years due to carbon buildup. I have records of prior maintenance on this truck.
We just purchased the truck and the check engine light is coming on and off. We took it to Freightliner who says it is the EGR but they need more time and money to investigate. In previous replacements the symptom was coolant leaking. That is not the case this time.
To be honest I don't trust this dealer as they also told us we needed brakes to pass DOT, but I found records where the
brakes were replaced less than 10k miles ago and they look fine upon visual inspection. They backed off when told this too. I have decided to seek another opinion on the check engine and EGR. This is our first and last trip to this Freightliner dealer.
I don't doubt it may have issues, so if anyone has had EGR problems please share. We'd like to understand these failures
and avoid being ripped off!
