Maybe Our Next Truck Won't Have a Reefer

The Enemy

This is a good alternative over the traditional reefer, but my question is how much more will a truck weigh with the RouteMaxx technology over the same truck with a traditional reefer unit.

I wonder too. Also, what about heat, like to keep paint from freezing in the winter or to keep electronic components at room temp when the outside temp is say 50F?

Use a catalytic heater with a thermostat. Many trucks had them in the Roberts days including myself. Not as exacting as a TVAL unit, but for paint and such, it was fine. Just had to keep items from freezing.

Phil,

It seems that this system will not provide much heat and is limited too.

I don't know if you understand how it works but controlling the system may be difficult and may not be possible to actually be good enough to be a validated system for super critical shipments. Think of it as a giant ice cube that may be hard to melt when you need to adjust the temps.

This type of system by the way is in the new Kenworths and in my new soon to be installed fidge.
