I am not married nor do i drive team, however i have a team in a truck and am concerned about them. They run the business like a household and seem to get into this [my job your job] i don't think you can run a business that way you have to be flexable and do a task you don't like or you don't normally do.What do you think,i should also mention they run hard, keep up trk,and generally do a very good job.I am concerned with them and getting burnt out on the job and with each other. Thanks

Praise them for a job well done and stay away from their personal lives. No good will come from involving yourself and you just might loose a couple of good drivers.

You have answered your own question. Stay out of their personal lives.

We have never run under anything but our own authority; however, I can tell you that neither Nicole or myself would appreciate interference on a personal level if everything else was up to snuff.

Unless you have become good friends with them, it is essentially a business relationship.

It comes to a point were there personal effects professional,i can see it coming but i don't say anything to them ,not my place.I have to plan for worse and hope for the best,i am just trying to get a feel for how teams go about things.I am talking about work stuff like who fuels, paperwork, talking to dispatch, typing, the things that i do by myself.I think they should both know how to do all aspects and agree they each have things there better at and like to do,however if that load comes across you do what you have to do.

We would sure agree with the above posts and would not appreciate any interference in our personal lives. We have talked to a lot of teams out here and not one of us do this job the same way. They have to work out between themselves how to approach each day be, it business or personal.

We do it the same way we do it at home. I do nothing, the only difference is I don't drink beer while in the truck.

Leave them alone if they do the job, can't do anything anyway.

Amen to the above. Stay out of their personal lives. Their relationship may thrive on their controversies. Some marriages are like that. Through my life I have seen it. No hitting just raised voices, constant bickering and through it all both couples I' ve been close to have raised seemingly wonderful children all of whom have graduared college except one son, who went to work with his father.
If you like their work stay away. You' only harm it through interference.

Yepper Pell, just put the monkey on their back. How they share the weight of that monkey is not your concern. Unless of course, things begin to go south.

You didn't say how long this team has been driving for you, or driving in general. It is a business relationship between you and this team. Like TeamCaffee stated, there isn't a team out here that does things the same way. I rarely open doors or fuel the truck hubby does that. I do most of the paperwork both business and personal. For us, this works, for others it might not. If this team is doing the job don't let it worry you.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it" is good advice. Don't question their personal dynamic as long as their work ethic is good and the job is being done well.

Thanks for the feedback,The male drivers been with me for 3yrs so he's the one i talk to,I asked him if there is anything i can do to help them and he gave me some ideas.I stay out of there personal matters, the ideas have nothing to do with them. The ideas are ways to run the trk in the most profitable way possible.I tell him all the time i know nothing about marriage and working with your wife, other then i know i can't do it.

TeamCaffee is right, each team does things differently.

We sat in Dallas, TX one weekend, with 2 other teams, and part of the conversation was about who did what in the truck. It all comes down to what each person expects from the other.

The way Jim and I work it is, I drive nights because I like to drive the night shift. I fuel while I am driving - there was a time he did not wanting me doing that but it seemed foolish for me to wake him -just to fuel the truck. Jim handles all the loading and unloading and I handle all the paperwork, both for the business and personal accts. (half the time Jim doesn't even know what we have in the accounts!). Jim doesn't like paperwork.:+ He takes care of the outside of the truck and I take care of the inside.

It works for us!!

i had to laugh when i read this one. every relationship is different. what works for one couple may not work for another. if they're doing well then don't worry about how they choose to take care of business. maybe one is better keeping books and the other knows more about truck maintenance. i myself know i am not as knowledgeable about truck mechanics as my husband but i can check the oil and looks for something amiss under the hood or with a tire. funny thing though...he just doesn't seem to be as good a cook and i've never seen him clean the toilet. i don't think it's any secret in the trucking industry that the guy does the "guy" things. i'm all for chilvary!! but i help out when i can and when i'm needed. by golly i'm a good flashlight holder!!!
