As a newbie still trying to decide if this is the route i want to go, I have a need to know how solo drivers handle being away from their wife for extended periods of time?

Thanks in advance

Not a problem at my house! We have been together over 25 yrs and my wife will tell you the last 2 yrs we have gotten along better then we did that 10 before that!! I try to stay out around 21-22 days a month.

One solo driver I know handles it by meeting her husband [who drives T/T OTR] whenever they're in the same area, and sometimes at home, lol.
Every couple handles it whichever way works for them. :)

Have a cheap cell phone plan, use things like Skype or other video chat services and go home every so often. If you are passing thru while loaded, get ahead of the clock so you can meet for a quick lunch and still deliver on time.

If your spouse supports what you are doing....you figure out ways to make it work.

I've been married for 30 years, I was a driver when we got married, she came from from a trucking Family so she knew from the get go how life would be, now that I've been home for a few months, I'm really getting on her nerves.

When I do make it home...after a week or so...JuJu will ask very politely of course.
When are you going back into service, dear? *LOL*

Actually JuJU still participates very much...she will map things out...check out receivers locations..make any calls to see if they open or whatever...she deals with any and all problems I might have with E-1..She checks weather looming ahead of me....it takes a load off my mind where I can just drive.:D

She may not be with me in body but shes my life mate/partner where ever I go...I am never alone... :)

Gotta love her...

You see guys..this isn't embarrassing...your mate showing emotion ..you hold hands in public, you hug and kiss...why should this be any different?

You should never be embarrassed when the one you care for displays emotion...you should be proud and say..That's my gal!!!:D

It will make for a better relationship out here on the road...

My wife is in school and I'm on the road, we try to see each other at least once week. Is how we want to live forever? No, but there is a season for everything and it work out well for us now.

LOL... I heard that! I got out of trucking for a while and ended up divorced. As it turns out, apparently I'm kind of an azz.

Spoken from the true Gangster of love..But really, you hit it on the head.So many drivers/guys treat their better halves like a doormat-total b.s !!! What you put into a relationship is what you will get out of it.Women need to be treated like a queen, nothing less.Don't go to bed mad, either!!! It sucks waking up mad at each other.Listening to Elvis Presley right now singing Burning Love. how apropriate !!Hunka Hunka Hunka burning love....

Well now. I guess that those of you fellas that "wanna" do this, there may be some choices. Cause her to be included; find anuther; git a job at the Post Office.

It depends on your relationship. My wife hated being alone for weeks at a time only to see me for maybe 36-42 hrs when I got back from OTR. I will admit there are times that you will get so focused on the job you will forget to check in at a specific time. She will let you know about it when that happens!

I am one of the few that do not talk on the cell and drive. I have a fear of killing somebody other than myself so I don't do it. I did miss a few check ins.

How does the "Boss" feel about you being out for 3-4 weeks or more?

Any kids? You'll miss out on them growing up...

Oh yea, there is a saying in the south:
"If she ain't happy, you ain't happy....." What will keep her happy?
