College kids recruited to join Obama's 'army'

President Obama's army of citizen volunteers is now actively recruiting college students in states across the country to "build support for President Obama's agenda" – and earn college credit while advocating for "change."

Obama for America, Obama's 2008 political campaign, merged with the Democratic National Committee in January and is now known as Organizing for America, or OFA. The movement some call "Obama 2.0" is now recruiting students and offering to provide credits toward degree plans in exchange for their advocacy skills.

A message from OFA national volunteer coordinators announcing the recruitment campaign and internship opportunities has been posted on several websites and on Facebook.

"Students and young people were critical in building the movement that helped elect President Obama last year. By becoming a National Organizing Intern, you'll be part of the grassroots effort to make the change we fought for a reality in 2009 and beyond," it states. "As an Organizing Intern, you'll work side by side with OFA staff and community leaders to help build support for President Obama's agenda. You'll learn core organizing principles that are crucial for any campaign and play an important role in building our organization in your state."

The announcement continues, "President Obama describes his time as a community organizer by saying: 'It was the best education I ever had, because I learned in those neighborhoods that when ordinary people come together, they can achieve extraordinary things.'

"This is your chance to get that same education.

"If you're passionate about making sure every American has quality health care, reviving our economy, and building a clean energy future, don't miss this great opportunity. No previous experience is needed in order to apply."

The group's website declares: "Organizing for America, the successor organization to Obama for America, is empowering students across the country to build on the movement that elected President Obama and help bring about his vision for change."

Volunteers must commit to working at least 12 hours a week from Sept. 1 to Dec. 11.

The Omaha World-Herald reported that OFA workers have been knocking on doors and making phone calls in Iowa and Nebraska to garner support for Obama's health care initiative.

"It is the first time in recent memory that a presidential candidate has maintained an active, grassroots presence in either state after an election," the newspaper reported.

"Iowa has almost nonstop presidential activity," said Norm Sterzenbach, executive director of the Iowa Democratic Party. "But the idea of having a sitting president continuing an organization is fairly unusual."

According to the Washington Post, Obama used the same standing political army earlier this year to gather signatures in support of his economic plan. The president asked his supporters to go "block by block and door by door" in every state.

In March, when volunteers canvassed high-traffic locations in Birmingham, Ala., to support Obama's health care, education and energy policies, one event organizer told the Birmingham News, "We are looking for supporters. We're not looking for a fight. That will come later, when we have an army."

In an Aug. 5 e-mail, Obama once again urged his supporters to help him gain support for his health care plan:

… Organizing for America is putting together thousands of events this month where you can reach out to neighbors, show your support, and make certain your members of Congress know that you're counting on them to act.

But these canvasses, town halls, and gatherings only make a difference if you turn up to knock on doors, share your views, and show your support.
Democratic National Committee spokesman Michael Czin said in July that OFA has hired staff in 38 states and intends to expand to all 50 states. OFA announced that it has organized 1,906 local events in all 50 states – from press conferences to community discussions – since it launched its health care campaign in June.

As WND reported, Obama has been accused of "planting" OFA volunteers and supporters at many of his recent town hall forums so they may ask pre-selected questions. The White House insists that attendees are selected at random, but a closer look reveals many questioners range from Obama campaign donors and Organizing for America volunteers to single-payer health care lobbyists and Service Employees International Union members.
According to New Hampshire's DMUR 9 News, Obama health care supporters, including OFA members, are being driven to town hall meetings by the busload:

One citizen filmed a crowd of activists at a recent town hall meeting. Each attendee held a printed placard promoting health "reform" and addressing numerous "myths" and "facts" about Obama's plan. Asked where she got the sign, a woman said, "Organizing for America. We're a grass-roots organization and proud of it."

Other town hall attendees have reported seeing volunteers handing out pre-printed fliers and posters from OFA.
WND also reported that help wanted ads are appearing on Craigslist that offer to pay citizens between $9 and $16 an hour to lobby for the passage of Obama's health care. One Sacramento Craig's List ad declares, "Help pass Obama's health care reform! Earn $325-$550 per week!"

Craigslist ads for Sacramento-area workers to "help pass Obama's plans"

Another Craigslist ad in San Francisco invited prospective applicants to "join motivated staff around the country working to make change happen."

The same ad ran in the Craigslist Washington, D.C., section. Similar ads were posted in Minneapolis, Minn., and Columbus, Ohio, sections.

Organizing for America is also calling on Obama supporters to show up at local representatives' offices to show support for health reform.

"As you've probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it's getting ugly," a letter from Organizing for America states. "Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can't let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand."

The group even offers to provide "information to drop off about how the health care crisis affects your state (with the option of adding your personal story)" and "a step-by-step guide" for pushing health "reform" at district offices.

Just so you know, this is nothing new. A friend of mine's kid has been working for the Democrats since a year before Obama was elected. He still gets gigs about twice a month for 4 or 5 days at a time to "spread the word" for them. He was in Virginia last week for some propoganda push. Oh, and this'll frost your as*, he's been with them long enough that when they don't have work for him, he collects unemployment!

Yea i know the Ameri Corps program has been around for a while.as a dem "tool"....it is just being pushed hard by barry and tied to his plans for a "Domestic Service Corps".. or his plan for a home land military like the regular miltary and as well armed....one other thing that will come of this very shortly, no kid will get government grants or loans for college without serving in these programs....

Obama Jugend! Jeder Zeit fuer den Krieg bereit!

Win over the hearts and minds of the nations youth. Appeal to their idealism and prey on their naivete. Scare and intimidate the elderly by threatening their fixed incomes and medical access. Create distractions for the rest of the masses to divert attention away. Ridicule and question the character of anyone daring to oppose the party.

I think this administration has underestimated the American people. They can distribute all the Kool aid they want on college campuses. Fact of the matter remains that they can't employ them all, and the idealism of youth will give way to the reality of our current state.

Nah, we wouldn't allow a repeat of history.. would we...

It is now compulsory to have your son or daughter to participate in community activities in order to graduate. Starting in the 10th grade, your son or daughter must complete 10 hours of community activities. This can included supervised activities helping the elderly, environmental clean up or you can chose to send your son or daughter to one of the many youth camps for the summer recess. There they will be guided and educated in practical methods of community service and they can gain a better understanding of our government and civic duties.

No that is too long, just have them talk to anyone who was in a Soviet prison and the horrors of what they witnessed and it pretty much turns people quickly.

But see OVM, you may not understand that this was/is the problem with Iraq and Vietnam, especially the latter. Vietnam was so far removed from our sight that what we saw on TV was nothing more than pictures from a viewing box. People didn't relate to the pictures as they did in the 40's when the news reels were showing bodies statked up like cord wood or the ovens or anything like that. We live in a high def world where we see that Lindsay Lohan actually is a 43 years old women in disguise and the lines that we thought were on the camera are actually the wrinkels on the latest super model. Black and white, that is what old movies are.

There is nothing like having horrors describe to you. Except seeing it first hand.

Students' take-home assignment: Census kits

By Haya El Nasser, USA TODAY
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...-schools_N.htm

Anyone tempted to ignore the 2010 Census will have a tough time doing it — especially if they have kids in school.
The government has launched Census in Schools, an all-out campaign targeting superintendents, principals, teachers, students and, indirectly, parents, as schools open across the nation this month and next. The message: The Census is coming and here's why everyone should care.

The goal is to send posters, teaching guides, maps and lesson plans to every school in the nation, Puerto Rico and U.S. island territories to encourage everyone to participate in the national count. The materials will land in more than 118,000 schools and reach 56 million students.

"It's great to reach the children because children are such strong voices in their homes," says Renee Jefferson-Copeland, chief of the Census schools program. "In households that are linguistically isolated, they can express the information to their parents."

The school effort is more ambitious than in 2000, the last time the government set out to count everyone. At that time, teachers had to request the material and it was available only in print. Now, the kits and lessons will arrive in every school and lesson plans can be downloaded online, where they will be available in 28 languages.

The Constitution mandates a complete population count every 10 years. The tally — down to the city block — helps redraw political boundaries and determine states' representation in Congress and the distribution of more than $400 billion in federal funds to state and local governments every year.
"It's extremely important for us," says Michael McGrady, associate director for partnership development at the National Head Start Association, which promotes school readiness for low-income children and their families. "Historically, Head Start families have been undercounted and that has a negative effect on their communities."

Between January and March, the Census Bureau will help plan a week of Census education in schools. During Census Week, teachers will devote 15 minutes every day for five days to the topic by discussing such things as civic participation, confidentiality or geography. Beginning in mid-March, more than 120 million Census questionnaires will be delivered to residential addresses.

The Census Bureau is partnering with Sesame Street to extend the 2010 Census message to preschoolers and adult caregivers. Under consideration: Using Sesame Street characters on Census materials and having characters participate in school events and public service announcements.

From another forum I visit:

Obama to make unprecedented address to all public school students on September 8

The long march continues apace as Great Leader drives us toward the new America with nationalized everything...if you have a strong stomach read the word.docs linked below with recommended classroom activities before and after the speech (be warned, if you love the Constitution you will want to barf)

In a recent interview with student reporter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DrP-695ATg-c , Damon Weaver, President
Obama announced that on September 8 - the first day of school for many
children across America - he will deliver a national address directly to
students on the importance of education. The President will challenge
students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility
for their learning. He will also call for a shared responsibility and
commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that
every child in every school receives the best education possible so they
can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and
productive lives as American citizens.

Since taking office, the President has repeatedly focused on education,
even as the country faces two wars, the worst economic crisis since the
Great Depression and major challenges on issues like energy and health
care. The President believes that education is a critical part of
building a new foundation for the American economy. Educated people are
more active civically and better informed on issues affecting their
lives, their families and their futures.

This is the first time an American president has spoken directly to the
nation's school children about persisting and succeeding in school. We
encourage you to use this historic moment to help your students get
focused and begin the school year strong. I encourage you, your
teachers, and students to join me in watching the President deliver this
address on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. It will be broadcast live on the
White House website Welcome to the White House Welcome to the White House at
1:00 p.m. eastern standard time.

In advance of this address, we would like to share the following
resources: a menu of classroom activities for students in grades preK-6
http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/prek-6.doc and for students in
grades 7-12 http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/7-12.doc . These
are ideas developed by and for teachers to help engage students and
stimulate discussion on the importance of education in their lives. We
are also staging a student video contest on education. Details of the
video contest will be available on our website U.S. Department of Education Home Page
U.S. Department of Education Home Page in the coming weeks.

On behalf of all Americans, I want to thank our educators who do
society's most important work by preparing our children for work and for
life. No other task is more critical to our economic future and our
social progress. I look forward to working with you in the months and
years ahead to continue improving the quality of public education we
provide all of our children.

Sincerely,

Arne Duncan

East Germany had the Staatsicherheitsdienst or Stasi for short.
Program that neighbors spying on and reporting each other. I was reminded of that when I read of the "flag" email set up by the White House.

You're missing an S there - Staatssicherheitsdienst - I know trival but it is making me think this gloomy morning.

They were the state security police and they had several spying programs setup for domestic spying among family members. One was a reward system for points for better food and living conditions. This all came out of both the Nazi's and the Soviets domestic programs from the 30's. Remember that most of the Stasi at the begining were former Gestpo and NVKD officers.

It has already started here, with ALGORES movement (haven't heard much from him lately-maybe he is breaking in that new G5) where he came out and pretty much said that he would like to see kids do more to report bad envorimental behavior of their parents. Maybe he is bilding that data base to track these bad people.

Wouldn't Surprise me a Bit if he was Building that Data Base for the "Bad" People or should I say Non Demecratic Citizens? Not sure what he will do with it but with the Weasel Gore in possession of it, It just might turnout to be a Hidden "Snitch List" for Obumma amd his Minions to spy on them (Us)!!:D

AL Gore Wants Children To Rat Out Their Global Warming Non Believing Parents

By Matthew Vadum Thursday, February 5, 2009
Well, not exactly, but Al Gore does want children to believe that the struggle to fight manmade climate change is somehow comparable to the struggle for civil rights. Gore reportedly told school children the following according to a report:
“But I’m thinking back a long way to when I was your age and the civil rights revolution was unfolding,” Gore said. “And we kids asked our parents and their generation, ‘Explain to me again why it’s OK for the law to officially discriminate against people because of their skin color?’ And parent’s try to tell their kids the right thing, you know? Usually, I do. And when our parent’s generation couldn’t answer that question, that’s when the law started to change.”
Could the fact that Gore is going for the hard sell now mean he realizes he is losing the argument?
