Mapping Software

Can anyone tell me how fast streets & trips (or whatever it's called) is, compared to the free 'mapquest' or 'googlemaps'?
Or can anyone tell me another kind of software for mapping which is not full of ads, not bulky, not a ram pig, etc?
Thanks for any tips!

I use Streets and Trips and really like it as a back up to our GPS. Since you own the programs you have not pop ups and have control of different overlays you can create. I also track all of loads using this program I use a point for pickup and delivery. I also mark hard to find areas with a point and add notes.

When we are having a hard time finding something I get out my computer and start streets and trips so I can look ahead and see what the turns and navigation looks like. Just an extra measure of help as the GPS we have is also good.

We run Dolorme on our laptop. We find it a bit easier to use than Streets and Trips but it is all personal taste. Just remeber what ever you use to check it against the Truckers Almanc before you leave. Just to be sure. Layoutshooter

Pjjjj, I can't imagine trying to use an online mapping program with the advertisements and such. You're good! ;)
We've used both Streets and Trips and Delorme, we liked Streets/Trips better. It's just a matter of personal choice. We just bought Streets/Trips 2009 with the GPS. So far it's a little strange to use because of the changes that have been made, but we like it. As far as the spoken directions, it's useless for us because it's so loud in the truck we can't hear them. Maybe an external speaker attached to the laptop might help but I'm not sure.
As Layoutshooter said, never trust the mapping programs without checking the Motor Carriers Atlas first.

While there are plenty of outliners, Getting Things Done, and project management tools for the Mac, PersonalBrain 4.5 gives you a powerful, innovative non-linear capability. Its closest competitor, MindJet MindManager 7, has a more Mac-like interface but imposes a great deal more structure on your mind maps.

Why wouldn't a driver just use CoPilot? It's made for trucks. You can change the routing to give you haz-mat routing if you need it. It will let you know in a heartbeat if you get on a truck restricted route.

You dont have to pay the truck stop price, you can buy it direct from the company and save about 1/2 the first time and the next purchase is discounted even more.

I too liked Delorme and used it for years but it just like streets and trips, it can get you in trouble if you don't pay attention.
