Making Productive Use of Your Down Time

No, I have not tried any of these courses yet, but the prices seems to be right, even if true college credit may not be granted for completing the courses.

A good portion of my down time is used to study. Of late, I have been studying financial accounting and day trading. Books in the truck are being used for that. After I reach a certain point in self-study of financial accounting, I intend to complete at least one and probably two college financial accounting courses for credit.

I have a college degree. While I continue to rejoice in the liberal arts education I received (double major in philosophy and history), I regret that I shunned a formal business education as a young man. With the internet now here, I can make up for that shortfall with self study and taking courses online.

So, no, I have not tried the college courses listed above, but, yes, I intend to complete some for-credit college courses in the future.

I have, I am taking courses from two of the colleges listed as part of my reviewing coursework I already finished back in my college days so I can finish my degree (engineering/bio-medical) and then move on with some AP testing so I can get my MBA or what ever fancies my brain.

I've bookmarked this link. I just wanted to see if anyone had actually used the resource and if it was what it appeared to be. Excellent idea for a downtime activity.

There is a trap that may happen if you take some of these courses and they don't count for any reason towards a degree or certificate. A lot of schools put stuff out there, like MIT and I think Yale but these courses are not backed up by the school.

I had to be careful to select courses that are similar in what I had to build up to taking paid courses and pass the AP tests in order for them to count in the long run. Just because it says Nuclear Biometric Engineering doesn't mean that it is the same as the Nuclear Biometric Engineering course you took in college or at the Naval Academy.

That's understandable. Even if it doesn't count toward college credit, it would be useful just for the knowledge that some of these courses might provide.

Oh yes of course, even some of the Wikiversity has some good courses and educational resources.

Even Wikipedia is a good resource to learn from (not totally accurate but good enough to keep interests in things). I know of two people who use the Spanish and German versions of the site to enhance their language skills instead of looking around for books to read.

Can't agree with you there. Why waste the money on one of these online courses that are not college accredited? There are many colleges that offer their classes via internet. Would bet if you check with your local community college they will have online course available.
Know this because I got taken in by the Strafford college online high school diploma years ago. Paid almost 1000.00 for one of my sons to take his 12th year online (he wanted to finish early and go into computer programing) and strafford offered schooling at his pace and on his time table, he thought he could have it finished by the time the other kids went back to school at the end of summer) only to find out the diploma was not college accredited and he had to go back to regular high school to get his actual diploma or take the GED. Wasted his time and my money. He was NOT happy, he put in all the time and effort only to find it was not accredited. Really felt bad for the kid.

Yesteryear,

I was talking about the free online courses. I would not want to pay for a class if it wasn't accredited or wouldn't be able to be applied to a degree I was seeking. The free online courses just interest me for the knowledge.

I use my down time to start controversial threads and read boring Fedex bashers taking
over what would be an otherwise interesting thread.

I use my downtime to post in controversial threads that were really not bashing Fedex but talking about Fedex contractors that think they are better than everyone else. There was also some fun poked at there silly uniforms too.

I saw thru your wit. What can I say, the uniforms are silly and we are better.

I use my downtime to plead with the Badges to quit being so heavy handed and over-reactionary, and to make fun of people. I quit taking those free online college courses 'cause they were costing me too much money. I did learn some stuff, tho. I took an ornithology course once. You wouldn't believe what a pelican can do with their beak. But, hey, some people can do that with their whole head.

I think we should get some college credits for reading some of the "extra long posts" on this web site.
