As part of a four year I-64 reconstruction plan, All lanes of I-64 / US-40 will close in both directions between Ballas Road (exit 26) and I-170 (exit 31) before morning rush hour on January 2, 2008 and will remain closed for the entire year.
Drivers passing through St Louis, MO, to or from I-70 to the west of St Louis, either to or from I-64 in Illinois, would avoid much of the anticipated traffic bottlenecks by using I-255, I -270, MO-370 and I-70, instead of staying on I-64. This routing adds about ten extra miles. A suggested west bound route is IL I-64 to I-255N (exit 10), thence to I-270W (exit 25), thence to MO-370 (exit 22), to I-70.
Drivers on I-70W through St Louis should use the I-270 by-pass and not go through the city on I-70
From Illinois I-64 to I-44W, towards Oklahoma City, use I-255S (exit 10) which ends at I-270. Follow I-270N to I-44 (exit 5)
