Major new about FedEx

It was all over the news today, FedEx freight of which CC is a part of is doing a merger with FedEx LTL. Good for the Fed but bad for contractors as the news release stated "FedEX freight plans to eliminate 14,000 total positions including canceling several hundred leases to" better serve our customer base and lower costs"
Looks like CC is moving hard to go to flat rates in order to profit more and pay the contractors less. And those who do not want to go the way of flat rates will have their contracts teminated. I relay hope this isn't so but it seems this is a trend as to where we are going. They have already been offered loads at terrible rates (as low as 1.10 per mile) for a reefer W/G load. ans this was a D rate with little deadhead.

Correction it was 1,700 sorry bout that hard to type in a bouncy
truck but it will affect CC .This I got when i called in to ask today
they are evaluating EVERYTHING including CC contractors. Like with any large company it is all about the "bottom line"anytime a company can increase profits, including cutting jobs they will !

Custom Critical is recruiting heavily right now for D teams and E solos and teams.
I would think the only contractors that should be worrying are those that are not performing well or have high CSA scores.

Isn't CC under the freight banner?

Oh yea it is ... some of the cost cutting in freight has affected CC already - look around.

I even think their budgets are getting tight over at Green as they try to hedge things for next year.

Recruiting?

Where?

I know of two E units that were turned away, they are now Ground trucks.

I've been on this forum (on and off) for eight years and cannot remember a single time when FedEx did something that was not followed by some people saying that it meant the end of Custom Critical, the end of White Glove, the end of expedited reefer freight or the end of this, that or something else. Yet FDCC continues on.

That said, FedEx Custom Critical has undergone some clear changes since it became part of FedEx Freight. FedEx Freight is an employee based company and that bias shows through in ways it did not before FedEx Custom Critical stood alone. More changes lie ahead, I believe.

Regarding the bottom line, Diane and I run a small company and like FedEx, we are all about evaluating everything and increasing profits. Can you name a single successful business of any kind that is not about increasing profits? Even not-for-profit businesses focus on their bottom line. If they do not, they do not survive.
