Maintainence Question for Sprinter Owners!

Hello,

As a Sprinter owner, I'm just curious as to the price you're paying for the following maintainence as well as to where you get it done:

1. Oil & Filter Change
2. Tranny Fluid Service .
3. Antifreeze Service 4. Fuel Filter

Is there anywhere other than the Dodge dealer that can change the tranny fluid? Can I get a fuel filter now from anywhere other than the dealer? Can I get the antifreeze from a regular parts store? Any info would be of great assistance! Just trying to reduce my maint. costs!

I don't know if this is going to help but I will share what I have.
I change my oil every 7500 miles instead of the 10k factory interval.

I do my own upkeep.
Oil is $6.00 per quart X 9.5 (Mobile 1 0-40 at Walmart)
Oil filters $10 each (Fram). Very easy to change from the top of the engine.
Air filters $20.00 each (Fram) Easy to change. You have to remove the left engine heat shield (3 10mm bolts) to free the air filter.
Fuel filter is dealer only (as far as I know) and runs around $65 if I remember correctly. I think the need for the fuel filter replacement is highly over rated. If you can find replacement O-rings you could just dump the filter out and reuse it several times I'm sure. You need three different torqx bits to change it plus you have to loosen the 2 fuel line (10mm) bolts. Be careful not to bend or damage the two water sensor probes while you have it apart. Dealer warns us that if we get water in the fuel it will trip some computer codes and slow the vehicle down to a max. speed of 20 mph. If this happens I would just pull the filter off and dump the water out.

I have not reached 80K yet so I have not dealt with the trany fluid and filter yet.

I don't have info. on the antifreeze, I haven't changed mine yet.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if doing your own oil changes voids the warranty?. I refuse to go back to the Dodge dealrship in my area they have ripped off or atleast tried to do so to a few guys I know. I found a MB Tech with 30 years in the business and will start going to him if any trouble arises. Again thanks for the tips.

According to my dealer, doing your own maintainence does not void your warranty. Just keep records so that you can prove you bought all the items to do it and what the mileage was at the time. Also you should make the entry into you owner's manual or maintainence book.

I'm too stupid to do my own work. I go to this place
www.vandykedodge.com
Oil + filter- $65- with synthetic oil
Tranny- $275
Rear axle service- $80 (every 60K mi)

The two shops I went to before this one charged $130 for oil + filter. This place is excellent, just drop in- no appointment needed, they're fast, the service manager Dave Davis is very good.
