Why are there so few Mack straight trucks running in the wonderful world of expediting? I think I have only seen one or two ever.

I always heard Macks would beat you to death with their rough ride. Just what I heard.

I believe most Mack class 7 straight trucks are rebranded Renault trucks.

Think about a Class 8 Mack ,then think about all of those dump trucks and logging units. They are designed for serious weight thus have a poor ride when empty.

10 years ago you use to see alot of them in Canada. Seems like they don't have the market share they once had.

Was just wondering about it. I had heard that they had a air ride suspension available and it was kind of smooth. Layoutshooter

I have heard the current highway truck has air ride all around and rides very well. I don't know the model number of it and it's a class 8 tractor of course. It could probably be ordered with a long frame though and built from there. It's certainly a good looking truck. I just think they are looked at as primarly really heavy duty and off highway trucks.

A few years ago I saw a Mack Vision Tractor stretched into a straight truck. It was very sharp - and the guy that had it really seemed to love it. It made an impressive expediter.

Would be interesting to see. Might stop at a Mack dealer someday and look at one. Layoutshooter

I've heard from a number of sources that Mack has revamped their style. But one thing that hasn't changed was the useful storage space... it's still lacking. The ride is better, tho. The Vision still comes standard with a 66" bunk, with an 80" option. It might be a viable alternative, tho the KW 600 still takes the cake as far as class 8s.

When I was shopping, I looked at a Mack rawhide edition straight truck - factory long frame. It rode really well (not like an R or B) and was comfortable inside - I didn't see if it had air suspension on all axles. I also looked at two Macks for conversion to an expediter, one had air suspension on all axles and rode really well for a 238" WB tractor.

I don't see a drawback to using a Mack other than the drivetrain. everything I looked at had Mack exclusive engines and that made me think about servicing.

You might want to take your question to Mike Landwehr, Sales Representative at VoMac Truck Sales in New Haven, IN (near Fort Wayne, intersection of U.S. 30 and I-465. He has experience with both Volvo and Mac and expediter trucks.

Mack hasn't been owned by Renault for a while . Volvo now owns Mack and the quality is much better .

As pointed out below; Renault sold Mack to Volvo.
I don't believe that Mack offers the class 7 trucks.
Also; Mack does build highway units with highway specs. I don't think the "Camel-back" suspension is still the standard any more.
