M2 headlights

I have a 2006 M2 business class. The book calls for 4006 series headlight bulbs. I took an old one out and it had 4006 on it. I bought a set of 4006 lights that said they fit all 4006 aplications, they do not fit. My old ones are straight at the conector and the new ones have a 90 degree angle. I looked at a truck stop thinking maybe Wally World only sells car stuff and somehow the truck ones were different. Not so. I can only find the ones with the angle. I was able to get the one replaced that was out, drivers side, but there is no way to get the other one in without cutting the light housing. Does anyone know what is going on with the 4006 series? I am surprised to see FL is still installing the straight version of the 4006.I was told they were obsolete in 2004 or 05. The angle ones will go in without cutting if it is handled just so.
Tech at TA showed me.
I couldn't`t begin to explain, but I was able to fumble my way through it once.

I replace both low beams last week. I used 9006 halogen lights. They are a bit of a trick to install but work great. Install the bulb unit first and then install the plug in. Little tough to get it in but I could not find the 4006 and a Georgia DOT inspection going on 5 mile down the road so I had to improvise and you know whats next. They waived me on through. Got new low beams anyway. Had one out in the morning walk around.

You can get the replacement bulbs at FL dealers. I ran into the same problem a couple of years ago, bought a couple of extra's for high and low beam. Surest way to insure you never have another burned out bulb is to carry extras.

They are 9006 series. That is what I typed but the computer put 4006 to make me look stupid. Not that I need any help. I guess I will look at a FL dealer, I was just hoping to get them at Wally World prices. Layoutshooter

I agree jaminjim: I won't have that problem again. I have them in the tool box as we speak. Just never thought of it before. But when they were pulling 5 out of 10 trucks around back I was not going to give them any extra incentive. Never seen so many DOT in one spot in my life. I think it was in Forsyth, Ga. right before the Florida line.

We have also had this same problem. Bob has bought them at a Freightliner Dealer, some TA's have them and you can special order them from a auto parts store which is the cheapest we have found. We also keep spares.

I had bought a full set of 9006's low and high beams but like a dummy I did not check them to see if they fit until I needed them. I thought I had planned ahead. Who knew there were to different shapped 9006 series bulbs. Guess I should have. Layoutshooter

I forgot to say we also had to learn the hard way! We thought all light bulb matching numbers were created equal! Wrong on this one.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one that learned this the hard way. Makes me feel
better!! LOL!! I was able to get the drivers side in. I put the bulb in first then connected the wires. I was able to put the bulb into the passenger side but there is no way to connect the wires. The light housing is in the way. It looks like the high beams will go in pretty easy but I have not tried them yet. Layoutshooter

I found some low beam bulbs at a TA. $16.49 each. I bought them because I need them but what a rip off. I will have to research this and find a better price. Layoutshooter
