Looking to drive again

Been off the road for 7 years.

I still have my Class A CDL with zero preventable accidents.

I can renew my hazmat endorsement, and obtain a physical here locally.

I can obtain a twic card, or anything else needed.

Retired Navy. Drove for various companies from 1997-2003.

Recieved "safe driver" award from Shneider National in 2002 as a owner operator.

I am interested in solo, ..... company, or lease purchase, or buying a truck.

Am I still employable as a driver?

Yes, but some companies may put you with a trainer if your looking at being a company driver. What a joke, but just covering their ace. My neighbor has over 25 years OTR and was off the road for a few years. One of the big freight companies wanted him to ride with a trainer for a week.
He told them that they are #1 with his middle finger...

Personally, I wouldn't be offended at the requirement to go out with a trainer - especially just for a week. Things have changed, and I'd be happy for the chance to maybe learn something I didn't already know.
Which is a LOT, lol ;)

I would have to agree with Cheri. If a person feels he has nothing new to learn I wouldn't want them as a employee or O\O.

Its not a case of being a dinosaur and not wanting to learn. It was a case of being "used" to run as team for a week when not necessary. Does he have something to learn? Sure, we all do. What he would need to learn is covered in a class room, company policy, updates to the QC etc. It doesn't take long in this business to separate the professional drivers from the steering wheel holders, a half day in any large city will do that.

The end of story is he is on a dedicated run with a local trucking company. The owner gave him a test drive to prove he can "talk the talk" & "walk the walk". Added benefit - home every day, runs at night four nights a week.
