Looking for O/O 's who have lap tops in their cabs

Hi--I write for the Trucking Industry and I'm writing an article on truckers who carry and use laptop computers while on the road. I'm interested in knowing how you all use this technology, etc....please send me an email if you're interested in participating in this. I would certainly appreciate any comments you have on this subject (positive or negative) and I have some questions too. Can you help me?

Hi Travis: You will get many positive responses to your search from this group! They are very outspoken and very intelligent! I'm sure they can help you with your research! I used a laptop for several years in my expeditor, and would not be on the road without it. Every aspect from basic book keeping to mapping sugestions, and obviously communications where handled daily by my laptop. So hang on and be ready to take notes. I promise this group will not disapoint you!

I run a cargo van and have a laptop onboard. I use it mostly for maping. It is not connected to the Internet as I am home almost every night.

Why not ask your questions here? I am sure you will get a variety of answers.

Hello,

Yes, I run a laptop in my cab. I'd be totally lost without one. I run my gps program, "ALK Co-pilot Truck", on it. This program was made for a big truck, so it keeps you on the main roads. I'm not saying it's flawless, but it's right about 90 percent of the time, and if it can't find my exact address, it'll get me to the town, and my company will more then likely have the local directions.
I also use, "Easy Trucking Software", it helps me keep track of where all my money goes.
When I pull into a truckstop for my rest, I have , a device called a, "Cantenna", with this I can park anywhere in the lot, and point my pringles looking can towards the antenna, and just like that, I'm on the internet. Used to be, I had to be very close to the antenna just to get a weak signal, now I can park anywhere, with no problems, and read my email, or play backgammon, or even some Texas holdem, but I always come to this site to learn more about this profession.

I use 2 HP laptops, 1 Compaq tablet and 2 pda's unlimited internet use with an aircard and also wifi. HP combo scanner, copier and printer. We use a fax service online. Software.. financial-quickbooks and money, Delorme Topo USA and MS streets and trips for locating routes, mileage and times. We check for the best fuel prices online "gocomchek.com" for most truckstops and also flyingj.com for their prices. We get home once every year so all of our bill paying and banking is done online also along with newsletter creation and emails to family and friends. In fact we got into expediting by reading this site online!!!!

We use it for numerous things, such as staying in touch with family ect. Also we use a Delorme mapping system for routing ect. We generally use Wi-Fi and until recently Sprint. Cell phone died and replaced it with a Nokia. Have to go to Bestbuy to buy software to run the Nokia. Most cell phones are alittle slow. If your phone is a 2G phone it will be really slow.
We use two computers, one for myself and the wife. They are a Gateway and a Toshiba. They double as well for games. A high price card playing machine!

I use mine for many things. I use it to get E mail, Find loads, keep up with news, scan and store (or E mail) bills of lading, Routing, all kinds of things.
