Looking for career advise

I am thinking of career change. I have been employed as a broadcast tech. for 22yrs and I need something new.

I would like to expedite but I don't want to be away from home more than a few days at a time. I have teenage children heavily envolved in sports and I don't want to miss too many events.

I want to start out driving a van or sprinter.

I live in Ohio about 5 miles from I75.

Any thoughts or advise.

Thanks

You live in a great spot for an expediter, but being home that often just does'nt work in this business.

Based on your post Expediting will probably not be for you. Needing frequent home tim while doable will not give you the revenue that you may need for truck payments ,insurance and so on. Best to look for a local air freight or Courier type of operation.

Hi,

Ya say you're 5 min from 1-75. Not sure where exactly on 75 you're at, but if you're near Dayton or Cincinatti, ya may want to consider EGL. You'd be home pretty much every nite.

Having said that, I would NOT work for em in a Sprinter. Those things are $$$$ & you won't make enough money to justify having one. So if ya can swing it using a 2003 or 2004 Ford or GMC van, you'll do ok w/ em. Otherwise anything you make will go towards a van payment.

Good luck,
Danny

Check with Rush Transportation and Logistics in Dayton. As long as you have a van or small truck 10 years old or newer, you're in. They expedite and do courier service within 100 to 150 miles of Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati. You would be home almost every night. I worked there and liked it. I only left because I yearned for the open road....Otherwise I would probably still be there. Good Luck.

I chose to make myself available from 6a.m. to 8 p.m. but you can make yourself available whenever. As I remember you get 60 or 65% of the gross mileage they charge the customer, which for a van was I think about $1.35 per mile. They also have routes available that pay
by the hour. It works kind of the same in that you get the percentage of what they charge by the hour. If you call there, ask for Murray, he is part owner and a really nice guy.
