Looking for a better carrier

Howdy y'all

Currently I have my Sprinters leased with two larger carriers (since I was unable to afford the astronomical insurance prices requested by Progressive/CIS when I was working with small carriers), but the miles offered by them are lately decreasing dramatically. Well, it's not that I'm going bankrupt, but the drivers need more miles, they need to drive, in order to have an worry-free income. Anyone can recommend me a better carrier that offers insurance and lots of miles?

The major mistake i see in your statement is, where can i get miles instead of where can i make more. Drive less make more. To bad load One is not taking sprinters !!!!!!!!!

Seriously, Get out of " the miles " frame of mind !!!!!

So, taken to its logical conclusion, I can make the most by not driving at all ?

100 miles of free DH then 20 cpm for DH after that. I hear there's a few of those positions out there. Sure, $1.05-$1.15 per loaded mile and do 400-600 miles a week. That's great math per mile, but per week? Per month? ;)

It's been been quite a while since I quit driving for peanuts, so of course, my question was not where I can find carriers that pay 60-70 cpm. Nor 80. And yes, to bad that Load 1 doesn't take Sprinters anymore... been trying to get there since Nov '13...

You should try appealing to John directly. I hear a spot was left vacant not too long ago. That driver has gone on to become someone else's squeaky wheel.

I agree and it's all fine and dandy but there are drivers who will never get that. Seen it before you can offer someone a lucrative shorthaul and they will turn it down because they want more miles. Head scratcher for sure but not a lot of business minded employees out here or contractors either for that matter.

Expediting is like the carsales person, many jump from one lot to another for more money, it never works out, they just burnout and do something else for a living....

And I'm one of them. All things being equal, I'd rather drive more miles than less miles, because I'll make more money driving more miles than I will driving less miles.

Sure, the rate per mile is certainly a factor that can't be dismissed, but then again the miles is a factor that can't be dismissed like some people pretend to do. Those who are "all about the money and not the miles" I guarantee you they know how many miles a load is. For example, would they take a load that pays $1500? If they're all about the money, yes they would, no further information necessary. They don't even care that it's a 3400 mile load from Portland, Oregon to Key West, Florida because it's all about the money not the miles.

In cargo van / Sprinter /Sprinter-like expediting, there is a relatively narrow range in which the overwhelming majority of loads pay. As long as it's within that range, then it becomes all about the miles. And if you're at a place that pays a flat rate per mile, like Panther, then it's totally about the miles, where "miles" and "money" can be used interchangeably.

When someone says they need more miles, they're saying they need more money. If someone says they need x-number of miles per week, you can bet they have a rate-per-mile in mind and they're looking for x-dollars per week. It's all meaningless semantics because it all means the same exact thing.

So there. :D

There needs to be a balance between rate and "miles"......sitting costs money as well....thats why Dynamite charges about $25. 00 a day rent on his trucks laying over.....:p...

Seriously....balance...CVing has a very slim margin of error....Do you sit for 5 days waiting for that .20 more?....or sit only 2 days for .20 less?....is there a right answer?....It all depends on ones needs I would suppose....

Some drivers are looking for greener pastures. I'm looking for the green mile. Any mile that makes me green is the mile I'll run in my cargo van machine. You know what I mean?

@ Turtle

You're right about the rates with cargo vans and I get that. Sometimes I lose sight of it. It's not like that with straight trucks and semis. I know I can go just as broke sitting around doing nothing as I can working at it. When demand is there I'm hustling. When it's not I sit on the sidelines which costs, sure enough, but not as much as working for free or paying for work.
