No Logs.....unless you are totin' placarded amounts of HazMat, and you have a CDL Hazmat endorsement

It is my understanding that you only need whatever the most basic form of a chauffers license is in your state for a cargo van. You must upgrade to get Hazmat. Some carriers require a CDL.

It might be a good idea for you to read all the posts under:HOS(HOURS OF SERVICE)NEWBIE originally posted by Jimalbertk and is currently on page 2 of this forum. There I'm sure you'll find some very interesting food for thought!

I am under the understanding if you pass through Alabama, you had better have 8 days of logs in order.......

BroomPilot is correct. Cargo vans are required to log in the state of Alabama. Terry is correct that cargo vans must log if transporting placardable amounts of hazardous materials.

it is my understanding, that any vehicle with a CGVW 10,001-lbs and is operating "FOR PROFIT/HIRE" is under the HOS rules, its just not enforced to that level, i would double check the FMCSR's the magic word being "for hire" thats why one renting a truck from u-haul is exempt, unless they are being "PAID" to operate it. ;)

If you are in a van and don't keep logs, and you never know when you might go to or through Alabammy, how can you keep several days of logs?
Thanks. :+ :+

Since you weren't requiredto keep logs for the previous days before and Alabama, just log off duty for the previous 8 days. Start logging when your Alabama or Haz/mat load gets loaded into your van.
