I have a load for a dock high air ride truck from Dallas Fort Worth, to Great Falls, Mt that is 1521 miles. It's 1600 lbs 90x36x46. The rate is in the range of $2.50 to $3.00 per mile all in. No vans or Sprinters. Call me at 330-723-5100 if you need a load that way.

I don't think an air ride would be any smoother than a van or sprinter.

But I know, That's what the customer requested.

Me either but i'm not the one paying the bill. The customer is, it's aircraft parts.

1,600 lbs in a Sprinter should provide a near-perfect ride. We'd gladly take in in our Sprinter too! Oh well . . . the customer is always right.

Why couldn't a couple of cheap air mattress's be laid out in the floor of a Van?.

For $2.50-$3 a mile one could afford to buy the good air mattresses for the van floor. :D

Yep me thinks air ride is no better than a van, but there is a perceived notion about air ride trailers in the trucking business.

I have a contract with a customer that ships a round trip load and they thought air ride was all-that and a bag of tater chips until there part came back broken twice in a row:eek: I sold myself and my specialized equipment to this customer stating that I could move this item allot more efficiently and safely. Customer took a chance and rode along with me on my first trip (had to find a seat for the van at a junk yard as I did not have a passenger seat at that time, but it was worth it) My customer was surprised at how smooth my ride was a how cautious of a driver I was even in a high traffic and very aggressive driver area, he did comment that I drove to slow for him, but as long as I was on-time and the mold arrived undamaged he was fine with that.

I believe a van or sprinter with a progressive rate rear suspension system like mine has a lot smoother ride than a air ride trailer. With this system when you hit a pot hole the truck bounces instead of slamming like a 53' air ride trailer does with only 800# on the tail. Ever see or hear what a empty air ride trailer does when it hits a pot hole at 65mph??

If I had an air-ride truck and was in Texas I'd jump all over this load. Great Falls is a great place to layover and wait for another load. In just a mere few months skiing can be found within 100 miles. Check out Showdown, Great Divide, Bridger Bowl or Moonlight Basin. Until the snow flies you can always hike, hunt fish and horseback ride until the QC beeps. That last sentence sounded like a line from a Tampax ad.

The customer asked for a air ride dock high truck. I even told them it would be cheaper with a van or a Sprinter. They said no, they wanted a dock high truck only.

If I had a truck there, it would have been a good grap with enough space to throw a couple more on.

Well, I have a Sprinter and an air ride straight and I've hauled freight in both, and I would agree with those who say that the Sprinter has at least as smooth or smoother a ride than the air ride truck.

I know the load got covered for $3600.00 all in. I'm sure you could have put some other freight with it too to make it a very nice trip.
