Little boy buying a doll for his sister

I was walking around in a supermarket when i saw a cashier hand this little boy his money back, the boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll.'' The little boy turned to the old woman next to him, ''Granny, are you sure I don't have enough money?'' She replied, ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.'' Then she asked him to stay there for just 5 minutes while she went to look around. She left quickly. The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. 'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for Christmas. She was sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.' I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus would bring it to her after all, and not to worry. But he replied to me sadly. 'No, Santa Claus can't bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.' His eyes were so sad while saying this, 'My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.'' My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said, 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.' Then he showed me a very nice photo of himself. He was laughing. He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so she won't forget me.' 'I love my mommy and I wish she didn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.' Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly. I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll!'' OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy said, 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!' Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give it to my sister. He heard me!'' 'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.'' 'My mommy loves white roses.' A few minutes later, the old lady returned and I left with my basket. I finished my shopping in a totally different state of mind from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local newspaper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy? Two days after this encounter with the little boy I read in the newspaper that the young woman had passed away. I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed forever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine, and in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

Dadgum it, CL, that made me cry - and I have to go pick up a load now! :(
Drunk driving is a pet peeve of mine - while truckers have to log every 15 minutes of their lives [thanks to the reckless ones], drunks continue to wreak havoc nonstop, some having more than 10 DUIs on record. I think legislators hesitate to crack down because it's one law they can imagine themselves breaking.

One DUI conviction, loss of license for one year while in prison and forfeiture of vehicle. Second conviction loss of license for life and forfeiture of vehicle and five years prison. Third conviction forfeiture of vehicle and capital punishment.

Great story and read it before in an e-mail. I had tears rolling down my face as I read this again. If everyone had as much love as this little boy the world would be a better place to live.

And if everyone agreed with Leo, the world couldn't build prisons fast enough.
Capital punishment? Seriously?!
I'd make the first conviction a fine large enough to make an impact, but prison would punish their dependents, too - save that for the repeat offenders, cause if one conviction didn't change their attitude, more won't either.
Drunk drivers kill 3 times as many innocent people as truck drivers, and while most truck drivers are also innocent victims [in a fatal crash], none of the drunks are, so why don't drunk drivers have to log their whereabouts every 15 minutes?

Yes seriously. A punishment harsh enough to get their attention and cause the majority not to offend. We could go with 10,000 hours of community service instead of prison I suppose. That might get their attention too.

Using that logic, we should apply capital punishment to shoplifting candy bars. After all, we want to stop that, too, and that would sure get shoplifters' attention, right?

Capital punishment for DWI doesn't pass the constitutional sniff test against the ban on excessive, cruel, or unusual punishment, nor is it scripturally permissible.

Aside from the ridiculousness of capital punishment for this, such punishments should only be meted out if someone is hurt, killed, our has their property damaged. Otherwise: no victim, no crime.

So why is a grandmother leaving a 5 yr old alone in a store?
It's a structured situation where bad literature is used to toy with people's emotions to make a redundant statement which we all already know about the evils of drunk driving. But more than that, it's bad fiction at its finest. The grandmother has to leave the child alone in order to develop the character of the child within a short time frame, and to elicit the sympathy and empathy for him, none of which could happen with the grandmother present and involved in the conversation.

This was made up by someone and then posted to their Facebook page for a myriad of reasons. All the Blogs and forum posts and e-mails containing this story originated from that one Facebook page, which is the Facebook page of a woman from England (which is filled with this type of fictional prose, and lots of astrology advice and the Daily Buddha Wisdom). The quoted story above omits this final line from the original:

Now you have 2 choices: (1) Copy & Paste this on your wall (2) Ignore it as if it never touched your heart.♥

I'm pretty sure everybody knew this was fiction, and as Turtle said, rather poor fiction. But then again, most of those "you're garbage if you don't forward this" things are.

so something like that has never happened .??

a drunk driver never killed a mother . a sister or even a family .

so a murderer should get life in pirson while their victims lives are ended . so the constitutional sniff test for the victim isnt excessive, cruel, or unusual punishment,

so glad the victim doesnt have any rights liveing or dead .as long as the killer has right is all that matters

so the moral of the story is "you're garbage if you don't forward this" only the so called EDUCATED and INTELLIGENT that cant think would say that

Not to mention the fact that it's quite obvious that the person who wrote this:

unquestionably didn't write the piece in the OP, at least not without some major copy editing. I'm sure CL is a nice enough guy to have a beer with, but it's quite obvious the real writer paid attention in English class while CL daydreamed or doodled.

Are you not able to commit t anything? That seems to be a continuing thing in your posts. You like to post about things but claim your not on one side or the other even though your writings in those threads leave no question about your true feelings on the subjects.. In this case you posted obviously wanting people to believe you wrote the story. When that was disproved you again would not admit it and tried to say you would not say because people would ask you to prove it. Disproved again your story morphs once more.

Reality is not really that scary of a thing, you should try it some time.
