Great article Jeff...I would add to your list of sources,Audible.Com and I-Tunes.

Both offer books downloaded to your computer. I-Tunes can of course only be played on the computer or the I-Pod. Audibles can be played on almost any device. I.E. MP3,I-Pod,computer etc.

One point in favor of Audible .Com is that once you purchase a book, they retain it in a library that you can download as many times as you like. This is a great advantage if your hard rive dies as mine did. 20 books from Audible were recovered. Books from I-Tunes must be purchased again.

What we have found when we compare prices is that Audible.com is cheaper then I Tunes. It is very easy to download audible.com books to your IPOD. I love the online library for Audible as I can delete the book off of my IPOD but if I would like to listen to the book again I can just down load it. Great Site.

The bad thing about Audible is that they do not have the Harry Potter series and to buy them on ITunes is going to cost a fortune.

You guys either have a secret or better focus. I find when trying to listen to books my mind will wander and I've missed pages. I like the idea though. I also am interested in the latest version of ebook readers but will wait for prices to come down some.

Having been a bookworm my whole life, I was surprised to find I didn't like audiobooks, when I first tried them. That turned out to be a symptom of ADD: I couldn't speedread, lol. Once I got medication for the ADD, I found that I really enjoy the audiobooks, and Audible.com (thanks, Linder, and Terry) is a great resource.
One thing, though: not having an iPod, I burn the books to CD, which requires the software program Nero. (Windows Media can't read the format) Nero offers a free 30 day trial program, but once it expires, the least expensive version costs $63 - more than I want to spend on it, for sure.
Luckily, I know someone who downloaded the latest version on my laptop, free, so I can continue to enjoy (and trade) audiobooks - they sure make the long night drives nicer.

I check out books on cd from my local library. I can borrow them for 3 weeks and then can renew them on-line for another 3 weeks. I hope to get an IPod in the near future. when I installed my cd player I added a cable to connect to an IPod. All I need is the Ipod.

Leo, try listening to some fluff fiction. Something light and more for entertainment. Or borrow some of Cheri's medication. I still believe a really good book is meant to be read so you can savor every word.

My so called mind tends to wander also. Thats why the really good books are run over and over. There is usually something I missed the first time around.

When a really good book has been heard several times,I still put it to good use by listening while falling asleep. My mind is distracted from the cares of the day and sleep comes much faster.
