Legally Tinted Windows?

Ok. Here is the post. Or rather a question. I have a friend who has a van which is from a state where dark tinted side windows are allowed. The sun shines alot. My friend gets pulled over in Ohio b/c his windows are not the correct tint. The officer pulling him over gives him 72 hrs to correct the problem, however, due to the economy and other situations, can't afford to replace his windows since the windows are factory tinted....and not to mention to the specifications of the state that my friend is from. Should this person be required to replace his windows...even though the state he is from says it's legal. Any advice or common remedies for this problem? Thanks :D

If the Vehicle is still registered in his home state, then I think other states leave you alone.

I would think that a commercial vehicle would have to comply with all states regulations...across the board...if he just did deliveries in his home state it wouldn't be a problem.

Only example I can think of is in South Dakota I am supposed to scale...does that mean I have to scale in every state?

only factory tint is permitted on a commercial vehicle.if he added the tint, its not that hard to remove it.i was cought here in ohio with dark windows, fine was 77 bucks, and i removed the tint.like i said if its factory tint, its legal

I live in Ohio and The Windows in my Van are Tinted Black as in you can't see in at all unless you put your face to the glass, I had thrm tinted that way when I bought the Van.Never been Stopped for the tint, The windows on the Driver and Passenger Door are Factory Tint, However My Astro Van has Factory Tinted windows and have been stopped for them, Got a Ticket, When I went to Court I took the Service Manager from the Dealer with me and got the ticket Dismissed,

mine are tinted 35%. it is dark enough to keep out the sun that was burning in the summer but dark enough to make me roll down the window to see a turn sometimes.

somebody needed to make quota i would think. court appearance is still a pain. maybe get a lawyer to make the appearance.

Since he doesn't live there it seems like the simple thing to do...................leave that state. :)
According to 393.55 (d) requires 70% of normal light transmission so it seems most any applied tint is not legal.
[highlight]
d) Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows. Coloring or tinting of windshields and the windows to the immediate right and left of the driver is allowed, provided the parallel luminous transmittance through the colored or tinted glazing is not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence in those portions of the windshield or windows which are marked as having a parallel luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent. The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows on the commercial motor vehicle.

I guess it would depend on if the van is over or under 10K.
