Lease or Contract?

OK everyone, here is one that I personally have not run up on yet, but I am sure it has been around, I have just missed it. I am looking to drive for someone that has a really nice truck, all seems to be in order, EXCEPT, he uses the words and the terms of a "Lease" vs a "working contract". In it I get to pay all fuel taxes, generator lease, truck insurance, etc,etc..my gut says I may need to keep looking around, but that could have been last nights supper! :9

I have alot of respect for the forum, and enjoy the readings. I have talked to some of you personally by e-mail, and look forward to meeting many of you next week in Columbus. Thanks for the in-put and info.

I can think of two situations in which you might be involved. An agreement to lease/purchase a truck which you then lease to a carrier; or, the owner is leased to a carrier and wants to sub-contract you as an independent contractor and have you pay expenses which should be borne by the truck owner.

It has been stated on EO forums many times. Many of us believe that an owner should normally pay all truck operating expenses unless the driver agrees to pay for fuel and tolls. If you would agree to pay for more than that, such as generator lease, truck insurance, etc,etc, you should receive run related compensation commensurate with those expenses.

The way I see it is if you have to pay all that you should be getting at least 75% plus 100% of the fsc. I say that assuming he wants you to pay for fuel and tolls as well. Are you runinng solo or do you have someone to run team with you?

This would be running solo. And probably running for a carrier out of the Carolina's. There is not any Q/C charges and such, but I think I would probably be more at home working with an Owner. Thank the good Lord I have a spotless MVR, physical, etc... Alot of really good owners out there, and I just want to be sure that I get with one of them.

If you were going to be teaming with someone I could hook you up with my fleet owner. He is awesome, but only wants teams. I can't say enough good things about him.
