Whiskey Pete's is about 17 miles west of Vegas on I 15. They have truck parking a full restaurant and casino and all kinds of shopping, plus give a very good room rate to CDL holders.

Our favorite layover spot in Vegas is the KOA Kampground (as they spell it); just north of the Circus Circus casino resort hotel.

The hotel faces the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd.). The KOA entrance is on a side street on the north side of the hotel. They permit straight trucks there. If you have shore power, it is a great stay. You don't have to run the generator, showers and laundry are nice.

The Strip is a short walk away. Circus Circus restaurants, gaming, shows and other attractions are an even shorter walk away. It is one of the higher priced KOAs in the country, but all lots are paved. The place is clean and safe. It provides a nice twist on the Las Vegas experience.

Whiskey Pete's has closed- as per their sign when I passed by in June.
But there's a place across the highway- (I think it might be the same owners/company)

Our favorite place to park in Las Vegas is at the Rio Hotel and Casino. We had our wedding there four years ago. What a fun place!!!

They have secure paved truck parking that you can stay overnight in, or longer if you want (you can see it from I-15 as you pass). Just don't throw trash or pee in the lot! Get off I-15 at the Flamigo Rd exit, go west to the second light, turn right on Valley View Blvd, go to Twain (strip club on this corner), turn right, go to second light wihch is also second Rio entrance and turn right. You will see truck parking ahead and to the left. NOTE: first light is the employee lot. DON'T ENTER THERE!!!

The casinio has a colorful Carnival type atmosphere, free shows, a lot of show girls and the Chippendales for you ladies, great pools for guest staying in the hotel, and the suites in the newer towel are nice. If you like lounges the Vodoo Lounge on top of the tower ROCKS!
You can take Rio's shuttle to the strip, or you can walk off those extra pounds by walking across the Flamigo Rd bridge over I-15.

WARNING WARNING WARNING stay a way from Wild West its a dump, its also tied into a truckstop. Stay away from the old downtown at least don't go off fremont experience, bums, druggies, con artist, and strippers. That came from security at Nellis.

If you want to gamble stay off the strip, although the slots are random the strips are setup to not pay out. That came from a guy who programs the slots.

Palace Station (or any of the Station Casinos)just of the strip, it caters to locals so the price is fair. Plus they have truck parking with security. We stayed there a couple weeks ago for the 3rd time it was $48. I think its Boulder Station that has a theater and bowling alley.

It appears you have wireless internet or at least a form of internet, try Hotels.com, they have some good rates and you can book a room then check in right away. Expedia and Priceline have somewhat the same rates.

If you have a few days check out the free stuff on the strip, like the violcano, and aquarium at the Mirage, Flamingo's bird sanctuary, the gondolas at the Venetian. Check your Event Magazine in your Motel room, lot of free stuff going on.

I think the best Buffet is out at the Silverton, next to the TA, it is pricey though.

Have Fun

One more thing wherever you stay, when you get to the strip pay the 5 or 6 bucks for the Duece, double decker public bus system. The pass is good for 24 hours and goes from Mandalay to Fremont street. And drink plenty of water.

Howdy

We used to stay in Primm NV, just over the CA border. They seemed to be a lot cheaper than going to the Strip area, and had cheap rooms.
