We seem to do pretty well out of there. I am just refering to straight trucks. Not sure how vans do but they can certainly pile up at times.

Laredo = 250 extra so it covers driving up to Dallas so i can get a good load back we just need to start looking at these cheap freight areas and charging extra to go there

I would take a Laredo load much faster than a Dallas load. I have dead headed from the big D to Laredo before.

One of my good friends is just an independent in a van and he has access to some boards and he was pre-loaded with a load from Laredo to Tennessee before he even delivered. But then again he doesn't have to deal with dispatchers and all of the games that carriers play! Laredo has always been good to him.

But for me Laredo is my Elinore. I have never been loaded out of Laredo. Everyone has different experiences different places. Some people whine about sitting in Detroit for days waiting on a load and I never sit that long in Detroit! It's all subjective.

And as for bad days and attitudes you don't want me to unleash tonight. I worked for 3 hours today cleaning the house and everything else and now I feel like someone threw me into a brick wall. I guess you should take it easy when you have physical problems. I want to beat the crap out of a door but if I do I'll be kicked out of here! I hope you all got loads home for Christmas.

You know, actually all but one load we have gotten out of Texas in the past three months were all reduced rates. This included a load from Laredo, El Paso, and Dallas. If the load taking us to texas was a good load i dont really mind a reduced rate back to a good area. I just hate them from laredo lol. I dont really enjoy the long wait until midnight for the freight to cross the border, the super crowded areas of people, nor the strong language barrier that interferes with finding out any information about the load. It just doesnt feel worth the hassle sometimes. I was just curious what others do is all.

Seriously?....you are worried about reduced rates?....I mean somewhat reduced rates....If the rate exceeds your CPM even by a penny, then it is all profit....whether it be $1.00 or $200.00.....leaving MT is a 100% loss....don't worry quite so much about making a statement as to being a business person first.....do what your pocketbook dictates, these are tough times....don't go into debt to make a political statement...

Wait a minute! Wait a minute....What happened to "Just say NO to cheap freight?" Not you in particular OVM but I read that statement many times on EO! The jist was if everyone says no to hauling cheap freight the rates will stay up which is true in theory, but what puzzles me is that every one
says to not take cheap freight, unless it's THEM who wants to get out of a no freight zone. Then its okay! WTH?!!! Again OVM not you in particlar I just used your post to reply to. I agree with you, OVM ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

I've never gave a blank check to the "Say No" mantra. Cheap freight is in the eye of the beholder. I don't know about anyone else but I run as I see fit....that suits me... If Joe Shmoe wants to run for cheap....well that is the way it goes

OVM, if you advocate $1 over cost as profitable, you are advocating cheap freight.
Add in many don't know their costs.
Soon they're fine with running for fuel money.
Of course it does eliminate the peskier competition, eventually.

We are in a pathetic market...$1.00 over cost as profitable? You lost me there...remember Iam talking CV/Sprinter.

PS... If some don't know their cost to run .... Well they shouldn't be out here

You said if you leave with a load that is $1 over costs, that's a dollar profit.
$1 over cost is cheap freight.

lol... Bad me....what I meant is as I said.... $1.50 going in ....70 outbound = $2.22 divide by 2 = $1.10 ALL miles.

Cheap freight is like women what works perfect for one person might never fit the next. No one can decide for the next person what defines cheap freight.

Thank you....

Zorry as you know most of us are O/O's....competing against others for freight, for work...just because we are with the same carrier doesn't mean we all have the same Cost Per Mile...hence different abilities to run at different rates....we are not a union nor a collective but a free standing business each with our different costs...Sure I call .50 cents cheap freight, I even gripe about it...maybe because I am jealous that my competition can make a living at that rate?....but the next guy can handle that and that is HIS decision..NOT mine....IF he wants to run for that, power to him...unless someone is trying to set MINIMUM running standards here....cheap freight does not really exist....

Yikes. Ya, I forgot most of you characters are O/O.

I'll have to pay more attention to what thread I'm on but I work for an outstanding O/O (and company) and if they want me in Laredo.....I'll go with no questions asked. However, it's certainly not my favorite place to camp out. Put it right there with Nashville.

BTW. Given my own authority it would seem those figuring rate in and rate out as an average would be my way of thinking. I'd take the lower rate to get back in the shipping lanes......based on my rate in? Seem right?

Bidslow Express. We bid the loads cheap and we stack the skids deep! Remember that one wrestler "Bam Bam Bidslow?" I should start Bidslow Express, LLC out of Bidslow Arizona!

That is what I've been saying..... A lot preach don't look at this business on a load by load or week by week basis...they say use a monthly average.....but then when it comes to lower tariff freight they cry "cheap freight"....somehow the advice all goes out the window...

Going to Laredo and sitting with 15 other vans for days on end because the company you pull thru rates are higher then the independents or the panthers is a loser. I go to Laredo and just head north because I have a better chance of getting a better paying load by over 40 cents per mile if not more.

The problem in Laredo comes down too companies just wanting to move their vehicles no matter what. Therefore, rates suffer because the panthers look at what the company gets not the sale are of the lease operators.

Just say no to cheap rates. Then again, cheap to one person is a good rate to another person.

This load I'm waiting to pick up is so so at 1.3 from Los Angeles to Ohio but I took it instead of taking a 5 day fishing trip, it will start off my new year making money. Yes I have to work over the holiday but I wasn't doing anything for Christmas except giving cash to my Leicester and nephew.

The only reason why drivers put that "say no to cheap freight" sticker on their truck is to get other drivers to say no to the cheap freight so they can get it and keep their trucks loaded! lol

I hauled van freight out of Laredo close to that price no need to head north. You drive 400 miles for free a load to say Michigan becomes 1200 miles instead of 1600 now you need even more per mile to make the same money. Of course loads don't always pay that but the do happen.

To me the ideal thing is to keep moving.....in order to make money. The main reason people do not like certain spots are the hang up days there. You never get that money back. Talking to other Sprinter people reveals they all have a place whereby they can't seem to get out.

Strange how for some it's this area, some it's others. Makes it kinda fun all the while.
