How bad are the rates for expedited freight coming out of Laredo these days? I've herd sub $1.00? Is it just competition, or volume in versus volume out?

Anyone getting a decent rate, or just delivering and getting out of dodge?

Well its all depends on how many trucks are down there for your specfic company. Now with panther I had one time where I sat for 3 days waiting for load, then another time where I had a load out before I even delivered. They may offer you a low paying load just to keep you moving, its upto you if you want to take it.

I know my information is just a bit dated (about 5 years) but when we were driving we always had good luck getting loads out of South Texas, and they didn't pay to bad either. We live outside of San Antonio, so we would love it when we got paid to go home. Even back then the South Texas area was considered one of those places where you would lose your shirt if you were dumb enough to take a load down here, we just never experienced it that way.

After typing this I started thinking about the loads we would take that everyone else was refusing at the time (CA, WA, OR, TX, etc) and most of the time we ended doing alright. We had the problems getting loads out of the supposed "Hot Spots"

Your appsolutly correct saying someone’s hot spot is another’s dead zone, just the nature of this business I guess.

But my questions still remains, I'm told there is plenty of freight just nobody wanting to pay anything to move it.

Now I got a decent pay to come down here and I'm more then prepared to deadhead out, but why deadhead out when there's freight? Just how low do you have to bid on this crap to get it?

I'd say if it was a good load, deliver then head east and sit on the beach for a few days... There isn't very many places to head after delivering, San An is 3 hours away and that is deader that Laredo. Houston's a good bet but if your going to drive there for free might as well stop by the ocean.

I love Laredo! I'm there any chance they get me a load. I had to dh out once last year, when I was finding my own freight, and once out of San Antonio in Feb, but haven't since. Stay in Laredo, as freight comes out of the McAllen/Pharr and Eagle Pass/Del Rio areas, and Laredo is smack in the middle.

What company do you drive for? Are you a team or solo? And how many trucks are in front of you?

Charlotte to Laredo this past Sunday. Two relaxing days with some good folks from Panther and Diamond then a good payer from Eagle Pass to Tyler, TX, followed 8 hrs later by a load to Akron, OH. We sure hope this is not an anomaly but an indicator that things are picking up; time will tell

Solo, only truck from my company down here.

Like I said in an earlier post, it's not the lack of freight, it's what it's going for.

Not saying your company is leaving you in the lurch; but usually one can find a way out. Sometimes it takes time. Either head towards Memphis now (my favorite dh destination from TX ;) )or wait till Wednesday. Then, once Wednesday rolls around, talk to dispatch about deadheading out. If you feel comfortable waiting, then wait till next weekend. Seriously consider one of those low-priced loads if waiting is not an option. At C&M, we have the option to lower our rate per mile, so dispatch can bid lower and get us out. We also have the option to find freight on loadboards if dispatch has no luck bidding on freight. What kind of situation do you have with your company if you're stuck?

Just curious... why won't you tell which company you drive for? Maybe someone on here drives for them, and knows something that can help you out.

I have made it a point when I sign on with a company I have to be given the right to find my own loads if I set for more than 24-hours.

Now, I don't know if everyone does that, but Bolt Express who I am signing up with will allow me to do that after 24-hours, weather I turn some of their loads down or not.

You need to check with company and see if you can find your own. If not start towards Memphis or something. If you are in Texas Sunday make sure you watch the state mourn all their NFL football defeats this weekend.

GO COLTS!

I really don't care what the rate is paying to get out of a bad area. I just want to know how low do I have to go?

if i just read right, your solo driver, out of laredo, running solo, and your only truck company has,you better get out of there.
very few loads from laredo to dallas, and bigggest majority of laredo loads are long and straight thru, not what a solo driver can do in expediting
if it were me,i'd take 1st load out no matter what the pay

Booked for Memphis late Saturday morning,

Still baffles me why we couldn't win any bids out of there? Dispatch told me they we're flirting with a $1.00 and still no takers.
